butterfly forest

a glowing blue forest
young black trees spread out their baby soft leaves
to cover the forest below
little glowing white mushrooms
scatter the mossy forest floor
waiting to be umbrellas for fairies
you can almost hear their distant tinkling laugh
as the dance in a fairy circle beyond the crest of the hill
the forest is reverberating with its blue magic
specks of it drift to the forest floor like snow
but the butterflies are everywhere
glowing themselves
like they contain the magic of the trees
the soft whisper of their wings
mixing with the dancing of the leaves above
the very air tastes of magic and mystery
of joy and laughter and childish curiosity
and of the strange early spring season
in this glowing blue butterfly forest
that surely is magic

once

once i met you
in the wishful hour of my dreams.
when i saw you in truth,
i didn't trust my eyes.
dreams can be mixed up with reality,
but you loved me so.
i couldn't forget
that time i met with you
once upon a dream.
i know you
and couldn't forget
that time we met
in beautiful wishing sleep,
the gleam in your eyes
can't be mistaken.
when we met in truth
we loved just the same
as that dream we both seemed to remember.
so really was it a dream?
or just a time when our minds
walked together once?

my own road

i've had a hard time
getting where i want to go
all these roads lead nowhere
and i'm going in circles
on the roads that can't lead me
where i want to go

you taught me
that i can't rely on others' roads
i have to forge my own path
and maybe lead the way
a small road that might become a highway
but even if it's just for me
i still have to make a path
so i don't forget how to get to this new destination

i have to pull it like a blanket behind me
wading through the tall grasses
and over the winding streams
it won't be an easy task for sure
but if i don't want to follow other paths
set out before me
i'll just have to make my own road

life's cage

i've been stuck in a cage
my whole life
i put myself there
because it was 'fitting in'
and 'being like everyone else'
but now i've realized
that i don't want to fit in
so i've opened that cage door
a bird free at last
and finally became me
rainbow umbrella in hand
and dancing through the puddles
just me and no one else

the truth of words

i always forget how powerful words are

the old saying
"sticks and stones may break my bones
but words will never hurt me"
has never been so wrong
words may not be able to break you physically
but they sure break your self esteem
mind and emotions

can build skyscrapers
out of the rubble of a shack

just one kind word
could save a life

alone

aching for human touch
left in a box of my thoughts
thoughts that tear me apart
and i need someone to shoo them away
give me comfort and love
stroke my hair and tell me it's okay
things will get better
but no one around me does this
and i'm left with this aching hole in my heart
i'm not familiar with this emotion
but i can't fill this hole with anything else
except a friend
but for now i am left
alone

instructions for owning a cloud

when holding clouds
be sure to not shake them
or you might make them angry
and they might throw some lightning at your hands
when angry they grow into towering puffs
but after they throw their lightning around
they tend to cry
so be sure to comfort them

be sure to love them
and hug them
but not too hard
or they might disappear into water drops

they enjoy being tickled
and laughing out into wispy strands
or playing games with other clouds
(they love to play pretend)

playing is what they do best
they love to play hide-and-seek with the sun and moon
and wave to the stars at night
and dance with the other clouds

clouds need lots of playtime
or their tears turn to ice
snow or hail their mournful cry
(if you see sleet they're just starting to feel lonely)

be sure to let your cloud socialize with other clouds
or when you let them go outside and play in the sky
they will feel lonely all alone
but if you can't find other clouds for them to play with
snuggles are a good alternative

but the most important rule for clouds
is just to give them lots of love

starry flowers and cat plants in the garden of my imagination

come visit my garden
just hop into this boat made of ideas
and sail into my imagination

my garden is filled with blooming hopes
and ripening dreams
flowers filled with the universe
and plants that are cats

i hope you like it here as much as i do
i know it's not a usual garden
hopes and dreams growing on vines
and my favorite things their own plants
but this is just the beginning

if you step into my stardust shed
you'll find all my secret plants
that i nurture and keep safe
since they probably won't make it
and grow properly into real dreams
that travel outside my imagination

so come and explore my garden
maybe help me tend to some of the wilting plants
give me a touch of inspiration
so i can use all those plants to craft
a wondrous story for you to enjoy

case study of 'i'm okay'

"how are you?"
the common greeting question
"i'm good"
the common response
but are you really good?
(there's too many times when you put up a mask
a smiling mask when underneath
you're broken and battered
and not at all okay)

sometimes if i'm lucky
i get "i'm great"
or something more like "not super great
but life must go on, right?"
(you can't hide your eyes
which scream the truth
you feel like trash
and don't feel the need to stay alive
or go on with life)

"are you okay?"
i ask as you look like you want to cry
"yeah" is always the response
why do we lie with "i'm okay" and "i'm fine"?

i've never yet met someone
who tells the truth when asked
but i guess no one wants someone they barely know
to ask about why they're not okay
