been a while and i've most certainly lost *the touch*, but here's something to try and spark that old wildfire once again, in the final days of napo

--
dim purple highways glow and pulse
through your pale, translucent skin;
tangled trails rooted deep in your flesh,
a veiny labyrinthine map to your heart.
and with the tip of a rusted blade, i follow.

Ooh, I like that last one a lot. There's something fantastical about it, with all the stuff like "tangled trails" and "labyrinthine" which conjure a haunted-forest kind of image.
"The fact is, I don't know where my ideas come from. Nor does any writer. The only real answer is to drink way too much coffee and buy yourself a desk that doesn't collapse when you beat your head against it." --Douglas Adams

--
a blackened skull – charred and aged, set neatly atop a velvet pillow, and
adorned with crude spearheads in a jagged crown jutting from its temple –
drills through my soul with its barren eye sockets, tearing feverishly out the other side.
some distant, archaic evil has looked through me, I sense, drenched in cold sweat,
and as the ground begins to quake, cobwebs and dust loosening from the rafters
of this ancient, sealed-off chamber, I know that it is distant no more.

bit different from the other themes, unfortunately, but it's something. not something particularly good, but it's sssomething.

--
Cloven hooves clatter distantly across linoleum floors,
and a name long forgotten is uttered again
as silver-winged children huddle in mute horror
against the shuttered windows of heaven's last Waffle House,
and no savior will come for them this time.

--
the devil rides polar bears in his free time, and he's getting pretty good,
but the arctic circle is no place for a prince of fire and darkness,
so although the northern lights are a wonderful change of pace
from the flames and gore and tortured souls of Tartarus,
he grudgingly dismounts his polar steed and turns on his heel,
snakeskin boots crunching through the slush;
chapped, purple lips opening for a hot fiery breath;
forked tongue licking exposed fangs;
and with one final glance back at this ethereal paradise,
the devil returns to hell for the night.

barely managed to get this one out, and it's not good at all-- very very rough-- bUT HERE'S AN ENDING TO THIS NAPO

--
Butterscotch kittens with sugar floss whiskers
mew softly outside the window of a coffeehouse,
lapping at milk bowls set out for their gumdrop tongues
as caramel owlets chirp in the rafters above.

Chocolate shadows flicker across the wafer walls
of the quaint, quiet coffeehouse's interior
and stiffly, a hooded vanilla skeleton chortles to itself
as it stirs a hefty cup of cosmic latte, and takes a silent sip.

Other exotic specials adorn the chalkboard menu
behind the silent barista's head, but you're too far distracted –
by the skeleton's coffee, dribbling through his empty rib cage
down to the mocha floorboards below – to order anything yourself.

“The end is nigh,” a rattling voice utters, and you fear
that it comes from the skeleton. “Are you prepared?”

And a somber realization overcomes you
as the skeleton sets down his coffee and draws a gleaming scythe.
