I have been told I am radiant and bright
Like the colors of the sunrise,
And yet I lack canvas.

Guide my life with loving hands,
Paint with me a masterpiece.
Give me firm foundation to work my art.
Fill my heart with sunlight
So everything that is good may be know.
Give me purpose and plan
Sketch my ultimate design
Give me shape and form.
If I am the colors of dawn-
Give me a world to brighten.

13/30

I close my eyes and
Feel the earth spinning beneath
my feet
And I wonder how we ever got here

All these flames rage inside
Tearing me to
pieces
They give them names
Sorrow
Regret
Passion
but they are no more and no less
Than sparks in a wildfire

When everything inside is pulling me apart
I stop and feel the world spinning
beneath my feet
Feel the unchanging tug of gravity and the universe
And all the rules that cannot be broken
The forces that cannot be denied
And I wonder when the universe began its dance

Sometimes I think the words I never said burn like coals in my chest
And the ones I spoke have ripped my throat open
The miles between us are filled with strands of broken dreams
Perhaps we will never break apart entirely
After all, we live in the confines of this tiny galaxy

When the stars are too loud and the wind is gently mocking
When I feel I am drowning in everything that ever was
When I cannot feel my heart for shards of emptiness
Then I stand still
I close my eyes
And I wonder
who
we
are

14/30

We've been here for an eternity
You and I and the starlight
And the promise of every tomorrow.
The same moon lights our paths through the dark,
The same wind sings for us in the trees,
The same feeling of infinity nestles in my chest.
So why does it seem like you're slowly slipping away?
I long to hold you tighter,
Stop you falling through my fingers.
It is so wrong to want our happy ending?
But no matter the cost
I will not be the one to crush you in my fist.
This lullaby is all I have to offer.
I tremble to think whether it will be enough.
But I've learned from you
A bird with clipped wings is no bird at all.
The only prayer I may offer is this,
That you fly true
That your song remains pure
And that you remember your home before the end.

Annnd cue lighter tone.
Seriously though, a three-liner? Is this cheating?

Shakespeare would probably kill me.

16/30

Where hath thou fled,
O wand'ring muse of mine?
Many a tear I have cried
Over this, the cruelest betrayal
But in vain.
Why dost thou hide thy radiant face from this thirsty soul?
'Tis a heartless game thou playeth.

17/30

Do not swallow the darkness

I wrestle with these questions late at night
Wondering at life and sin and suicide
And taking in all that is and all that could be.
I find myself lost in darkness with no way up.
Faintly, I feel hands on my shoulders
Softly, a voice wraps around me.
Do not swallow the darkness.
Everything that is good and right lies at the end of my own struggle.
I cling to this
There is no light, but there is this gentle reassurance.

It takes all I have
To let my heartbeat
Drown out
All my fears.

Oh look a poem I actually like that's not about death and dying.

19/30

I love the taste of
early morning stillness, when
the world is turning slowly
and the sun gives a sleepy hello.

I think about this at night,
how the sun never really sleeps
Only turns to say good morning
to those who live in far-off places.

As I take your hand,
I imagine we are the sun.
We don't pause to rest our feet
We run, always run
to break light upon dark places.

You and I will continue to turn
while the earth sleeps and all is still
with the taste of early morning on our tongues
and faded starlight in our eyes.

Hold me tight, and
fall with me
off the edge of the horizon.
Infinity beckons.

I get kind of that sense of standing and staring into the sunset seeing eternity when reading your poetry. That sort of "awe" comes through in a lot of it. I like the experimentation with different line lengths in poem 13, and both of your short poems (18 &15) are great! I definitely lack the skill of being succinct while still sounding poetic, but you've nailed it in both of those poems. I think 14 is my favorite so far; just some really powerful lines and images in there:
"But no matter the cost
I will not be the one to crush you in my fist." ....
"A bird with clipped wings is no bird at all.
The only prayer I may offer is this,
That you fly true"

Really nice work so far! :)
you should know i am a time traveler &
there is no season as achingly temporary as now
but i have promised to return

Now, listen-
We've come this far, and
Here is your mark of history.
We've run and we've crawled,
Gasped and sobbed,
And laid on the edge of darkest wings,
Now here is the story I know how to tell.

Life is the art of falling freely
Through sunsets and the black nights that follow
Of grasping the stars tightly, though they burn,
And never letting go, though your grip grows weak.
Though night overtakes the earth,
It cannot blot out the stars.
When the rain is pouring down,
You must learn to make little leaf boats
And sail them through the puddles of life.
When the days burn hot,
Always remember to take time for afternoon tea.

When you begin to sink,
Let go and allow yourself to fly.
If you should start to drown,
Remember that the strength within cannot fail you.
Always remember who you are.
And, hun, get to bed on time.

Above all, let no one take this truth from you-
That you are free, and you are loved, and you were born with wings.

The alliteration was absolutely accidental.

21/30

Close your eyes now,
Let whispers carry you through.
There is no solid ground here, but that's okay
You're learning to fly.
They will laugh and they will mock,
And spit and curse and rage,
But just you close your eyes, darling,
Feel the wind weaving through weakened fingertips
Unchain those bruised and battered wings
And trust the sky to bring you home.

... I'm not quite sure what happened here. I had something very different in mind.

22/30

You find yourself trapped behind glass,
Sinking in a pit of sand.
Nothing is stable here,
Nothing will ever be as it once was.
You try to keep your head above the sand
But you feel that nothing you could ever do or say
Will stop it from trickling down
(and down and down)
And down
And you find yourself falling with it.

Times change.
People change.
Sand slides through fingertips on the beach
And the sea swallows it and churns it and perhaps spits it back out
Miles away from the place called home.
Yet you seem to be the only one with questions of why
And where and how and what's for tea.
The ocean does not care for tea, you can tell
But you imagine sipping it anyway.

If one plus one equals two,
What does infinity times the stars equal?
They say it's an incompatible equation,
But you've heard the universe asking this same question outside your bedroom window
Late at night.

Giving myself a little extra time, because Real Life made a sneak attack. Let's see how long it takes to make thirty.

23/30

I wrap myself in skin too tight
Clinging to everything that steals my breath
Because no one wants to see the fragments of truth
That are buried in the darkest parts of every soul.

It took me an extra three weeks to finish up. So, yay me. I can write thirty poems in two months.

24/30

Take courage now
You're far from home
But never on your own
The road is long and the waters few
There's no one to hold,
Nowhere to rest
But on the horizon is the distant sun
Remember swallowing a coal from home
Now it glows in your belly
And burns away the darkness
You've miles to go yet
But the sun lives in you
You're nearly home

Okay, first of all, who names their dinner? I don't want to know my dinner's name. This potato--is this potato named Steve?
