Iiii am really bad at poetry, in my opinion. Other people have told me I'm actually quite good at it/have potential if I'd just work on it some more. Thing is I kinda really dislike poetry, but then I keep gravitating back towards writing some of it and I just really don't know why, but... NaPo, yay, I guess.

I actually just really liked how the poems in other people's NaPo threads looked and so yeah.

Let's wing this and hope it's not embarrassing or too garbage!
yay colors!

oh I also have to catch up on, like, the last three days, and then write one for today because it's now midnight and a half and so yeah four poems oh no I'll try to post one/some soon

1/30
for April o' first
in which hatt writes about grandmas on drugs, at 1 am, and is aware that it makes little to no sense.

no. 1 - golden years and bong water tears?

gosh-darn fools and dirty twine spools —
the grandkids want eggnog cake.
Christmastime in late July,
and silverware dashing away.

un-knitted sweaters, abandoned for change,
sofa coins all in a jar.
grandpa heading behind a building;
shady deals out by the mart.

verses of sense; none to be had,
dusty old bulldogs and pie.
strange ancient runes scrawled through a notebook
and snowmen killing a guy.

odd old smoked plants, strewn 'cross the floor,
gravestones set on T.V.
Canadian goosebumps and Michael J. Fox:
fallen towers of DVDs.

a dead rotten bird, left on the porch,
and grandfather's cardiac arrest —
all of the things that strange odd old plants
often caused grandma to miss.

2/30
in which plastic bags and careless jerks take center stage.

no. 2 - squander

Lost in a world
and tossed to the wind,
tumble and roll,
down streets, to plankton.

bird's flight taken
over the dunes,
to land in an ocean
of your victims' doom.

tangling, twisting,
all 'round fish,
wings and crustaceans;
death so careless.

Morals; horrific,
no time for good deeds,
letting your plastic
suffocate the sea.

3/30
in which a farm and farmer end.

no. 3 - the april farm

Ravaged old cabbage,
torn up dead corn.
Leaves of smashed pumpkins,
and crops all forlorn.

Big dark black birds
with pearly fogged eyes,
and snapping sharp beaks,
and deathly war cries.

Scarecrows are worthless;
the harvest's all gone,
three years in a row —
this farm's nearly done.

Weak dusty old farmer,
too poor for more grains;
a rifle barrel held up,
and walls splattered in brains.

4/30
in which birds and moles are people too and fight bloody wars, as people do.

no. 4 - blood of clouds and dust

Bird-men chained up and stood in a line
some snapping their beaks, some shouting war cries
every last one, though, waiting to die

Raiders of castles and thieves of souls
bird-men that preyed on lesser men — moles

Sergeant up pacing, glaring and scowls
his prisoners ranging from eagles to owls
“Are ye any men, or are ye all fowls?!”

“What're you worth — please, tell us, right now.
Five dollars a feather? Some work at the plow?”

“Unshackle the one, tallest of all,
let's see us now how mighty birds fall!
But make sure some guards stay alert 'top the wall.”

“Your kingdom of talons has fallen to us!
The people of burrows, those in the dust.”

“Now come face your end and taste the cold steel,
my sword has long waited for chance come to kill.
It will strike ye right down, d'we have a deal?”

Then steel upon feathers and claws upon fur,
the bird-men revolted and slaughtered that sir.

Up to skies, brethren — we feast tonight!
Let it be known; the wings keep their might.

5/30
in which a bar fight occurs.

no. 5 - chunks of teeth

Gibberish and jargon,
headaches galore,
red bleeding knuckles,
a fat broken nose.

Heat of a moment,
fists flying fast,
knocked to the ground,
police barging in.

Eyeballs all blurry,
room spinning 'round,
crawl under a table,
run out the door.

Stumble down streets,
searching for home,
fall in a gutter,
die all alone.

6/30
in which the fictional heroes are portrayed (poorly. Apologies can be found at the front desk).

no. 6 - devoted to childhoods

Raised hoods and arrows,
poisonous storms.
Billowing capes,
and weapons galore.

Magic in castles,
and evil jewelry.
Furniture takes you
to a world where you're king.

Big lizards, small angels,
and animals that talk.
Knights that use lasers,
and running from clocks.

Classics with morals,
whatever you like.
There's room for them all —
pick what you might.
