disenchantment xxviii

My soul is a library
Be quiet, don't disturb
(Please)

Until an earthquake strikes
The sacred space destroyed,
The books are all gone
And in their place, emptiness

Racked with sobs
And disconsolate words
The world is ending
Even though I prepared
Hours and hours
How long will it take to recover?

Even those who hadn't taken measures
To ensure their safety
They were fine, they were fine
And here I was,
Devastated
Beyond repair.

And this is the most important illusion of all
How long will it take me to learn?
How many times must I be made an example?
Fate doesn't care who is ready
Who is supposed to be safe.
The hollow places will swallow us all,
One at a time.

My soul is coming back to life
Slowly, mechanically
Like an automaton turned on
It's hard to get back up
From a disaster

My fears begin to dissipate
As I put my energy into something else
Something I care about
And I work with a fervor
So that all can see
Not the work, but the message:

I am not defeated.

And so I see
That I'm not broken yet
I am strong
And my friends do need me
(We make each other strong)

Linking arms with her
We both smiled
And we were happy
All of our unspoken conflicts,
Struggles, trials,
Passed between our fingertips
And we accepted each other.

I know the calendar will go by
But she will always be at my side
She knows the deepest fears of my heart
And she's opening up to me
We're all a work in progress
And we won't know the affect of anything
Until the future hits.

We were disenchanted with the world
And together, we can uncover the illusions.
