I'm just so excited for NaPo! Unfortunately I'm gonna be late on the first couple days. But I really wanted to make my thread on the first day. ^-^
Don't have access to my poetry journal right now though and I can't even post one today. boo hoo.

Welcome to my NaPo Thread. In here you will find my poetical musings. Be warned that I may dedicate a poem to you if you get too close. Or even if you stay away. I am not responsible for any embarrassment this may cause you. This is my first time doing NaPo, unless you count the fact that I did poetry instead of a novel in November. But shh. That's in my blog. We all know that blogs don't count.
There will be no theme, and I can't deal with themes. They restrict my creative capacity.

*Comments very welcome*

April 2: Grayboys
Dedicated to Leroy

The grayboys' mutters
sink through the cracks.
Their red, crying eyes
are beacons to be avoided.

The gray boys
take up space in the corner,
watching silently
behind silver-rimmed lenses.

The grayboys' shadows
are only themselves,
and their whispers
are that of dry paper.
Instead, he said, Brother! I know your hunger.
To this, the Wolf answered, Lo!

April 3: frog croaks
Dedicated to the frogs that kept me awake all last night

Frog croaks.
The opening of a thousand
creaky-croaky doors.
Cherry-red dragonflies
flit around a cherry-red pond,
colored from the cherry-red sunrise.
She plays in the grass blades.
She laughs with the wind,
almost pushing her off her feet.
She dances around the doors,
in and out and in again,
all held wide open for her.

Frog croaks
the gentle closing of a few
creaky-croaky doors.
She never even noticed them
on her train to the city.
a few more doors close.

Frog croaks
the closing of hundreds
of creaky-croaky doors.
They serenade her return
to the pond,
now blood-red by the sunset.
She has danced around metal blades
and she has wheezed in the wind,
pulling her down, down, down.
She stumbles over thresholds.
A storm breaks.
The lightning flashes in time
to her heart beat.
Rain tumbles
and the thunder just moans.

A frog croak.
The storm ceases,
and a final door closes.
Instead, he said, Brother! I know your hunger.
To this, the Wolf answered, Lo!

April 3.5: A Writer's Storm
Dedicated to @AfterTheStorm
It's tornado-y weather outside and when I get nervous I write poetry.

The Storm was rough and wild
the Writer checked outside,
a funnel cloud swirrled.
She went downstairs to bide.

She had all the essentials:
cans of food and a flashlight,
can opener and toothbrush,
and paper on which to write.

She knew she was prepared
to write right there and then
an award-winning novel,
but she forgot to bring a pen.

April 4.5: (im)MATERIAL
Dedicated to @Niebla because I missed her birthday and she is just wonderful.

She was focused on summer days
and dragonflies and dreams and the night wind.
She treasured smiles and beheld every tear as a jewel.
In short, she was immaterial.

The world tried to sell her summer days
and pleasant adventures of laughter and tears.
But summer days were hazy and wasted
the laughter was brutal and forced.
And the tears lost the shimmer
and soaked and hidden, the shame.
And it was all sold for
Money, money, money and cash.
How much we'll spend to pretend we're immaterial!
How much we'll spend to make more to make more to make more
just to pretend to turn ourselves off.
such a material world.

But she had enough material, just enough,
to get by in the material world.
But the more "wealth" she had, the poorer she felt.
And the heavy sigh of cash crushed her spirit,
crushed the moon beams that filtered through the trees.
An immaterial girl in an unforgivably material world.
Instead, he said, Brother! I know your hunger.

April 5: Glass Road
dedicated to @Lumi

My heels dig into the splintering glass road.
The path behind me is cobwebbed with cracks
from my own heavy footfalls.
But the glass ahead is smooth and perfect.
It reflects the moon,
something my father hung, leaving it glowing there.
Behind me, It is scattered, made to turn mosaic.
Shattered into a hundred moons,
A million more by the footstep.
So I keep walking.

April 6: Leaden Caskets
Dedicated to Mrs. D and Mr. P

The ghouls in the leaden casket,
they sob, but try to mask it.
Their crashing jeers abrase my ears.
They hide their marble-shining tears
behind the harshest screeching cheers.
The Ghouls in the leaden casket.
Instead, he said, Brother! I know your hunger.
To this, the Wolf answered, Lo!

April 7: Cotton-Candy Fiberglass
Dedicated to @Rosey%20Unicorn, just for the pink.

A cotton-candy cottage
housing only me.
The sugar is sweet
and it melts on my tongue.
This sticky-sweet world
that I call my home
is light and fluffy as a cloud.
It is as pink as a sun set.

A fiberglass jail
housing only me.
It cuts me and scrapes me
embedding.
Pink as the sickest of ironies.
I breathe it in
and the burning shreds of my lungs
cry out against the air.
Drop against the razor clouds.
Instead, he said, Brother! I know your hunger.
To this, the Wolf answered, Lo!

April 7.5: The Lake
Dedicated to Ludo

If you have any questions,
go and ask the lake:
feel its rush within you.
Your answer will surely come
as a breeze or as a sigh
through the willowing trees
above.

Find the lake glass:
It glitters in the Sun
in colors of
green and brown, clear and blue.
The colors of eyes.
The colors of water.
The colors of glass.

Come to the water
and ask it your question
where the world converges
on the horizon.
The lake knows all,
reflects all.
If you ask,
it will answer,
and not merely wave.
Instead, he said, Brother! I know your hunger.
To this, the Wolf answered, Lo!

April 8: What Happened?
Dedicated to: her.

You used to sneeze three times
every time you sneezed.
Whatever happened to that?
Was it because they all pointed
their shifty-slidey, judging eyes
in your direction?

You used to snort
whenever you laughed.
What happened to that?
Was it because they all thumbed
their stupid-stuck-up noses
and made pig noises at you?

You used to wear your thick-lensed glasses
unashamedly.
What about that?
Was it because they lashed out,
striking you with words,
calling you "four-eyes?"

You used to smile
and show your braces.
Where did those smiles go?
Was it because they called you "metal-mouth."
and bashed your head against a locker
to "prove it?"

You used to smile,
your heart used to beat.
What ever happened to that?
Was it because of them?
Instead, he said, Brother! I know your hunger.
To this, the Wolf answered, Lo!

April 9.5: Some title relating to birds
Dedicated to @TommySneak because the last one was dedicated to a Tom.

Remember the time
you saw a goose on a roof
and smiled all day?

And you cheered for the
seagulls that were flying up
above the race track.
Instead, he said, Brother! I know your hunger.
To this, the Wolf answered, Lo!
