If you liked my poetry contest... well hold on to your nickers because now I'm going to constitute a short story contest! Before we go on to the parameters, be sure to submit your short story for this contest by posting a link to your piece in the comments section of this page. Furthermore you must include all the prompts provided in a note at the beginning of your piece. Your piece will not be counted for this contest unless you include both of these requirements.

Now for your challenge, send me a PM to receive a list of words in which you will write a short story that's less than 2,000 words around. In this list of words, you will receive a person, a place, an object, a color, and an animal. For example, your prompt may be: The Grim Reaper, a motel, a lamp, violet, and a raven. You must write a short story with all of these aspects in it. Do keep in mind that this is a contest that is incredibly dependent upon creativity, your main character does not have to be The Grim Reaper. This piece could just as easily be told from the eyes of a raven as it can be from the perspective of The Grim Reaper or some other unknown narrator. A character doesn't even have to be one of the people I provided, maybe just bring in the concept of them or some influences of theirs, as long as it's a major aspect of your short story. But do keep in mind that a good portion of your writing will be graded upon how well you use all these aspects in your piece. So don't completely push them off to the side.

For this challenge, I will be assisted by: Magpie94, Wherethewindgoes, BenFranks, SparkOfDoubt, and Trident in the judging process. These are, without a doubt, some of the best reviewers on YWS. The 'grading' process of your piece is graded off of: 1-100 for how good of a short story it was. 1-20 for how well your prompts are sensically incorporated into your writing. 1-10 for creativity. Also, you will receive at least two reviews total from our judges on your submission, if you have less than two reviews after a week of your submission, let me know and I'll sort it out.

The 1st place person will get five reviews from each of the judges, useable at any time. 2nd place will get four reviews, 3rd place three reviews, 4th place two reviews, and 2-3 honorable mentions will receive one review.

Because of the limited amount of words you have to write this piece, try to keep your writing concise and to the point. Omit all useless words whenever you can. Creativity is greatly valued in this contest, send me a PM for your list of words. The deadline for this contest is March 29th. Let me or any of the judges know if you have any questions. Best of luck to you all, and may the odds be ever in your favor.

So does the word count have to be 2,000? Mine is currently about 3,000! I'll try to cut it down, but I might as well ask. :P

2,000 my friend. Sorry, rules are rules. You can do it! If it's within one or two hundred words over 2,000 I wouldn't worry about it too much. Good luck!
