Prepare for trouble... and make it double.
The Challenge: Make a double trouble writing huddle collaboration story around two opposite characters.
One could be quiet, the other outgoing. One could be a magical creature, the other human. Goth and prep. Angry and calm. Life and death.
They could have opposite magics. They could have opposite personalities. The only requrement is they are, somehow, obviously opposing forces at the start.
The Requirements:
Technical
- The premise and opposing forces must be in the first post, as a book blurb
- The two co-writers must be named in the first post
- The story must have at least 20 posts that progress the plot forward
- All posts should be over 200 words (if you have over half your posts under 200 words, the thread must be at least 30 posts)— try not to make them too long, or else you'll struggle to get enough posts in!
- Spelling and grammar count
Creative
- Any genre is allowed
- Any plot allowed (including romance, adventure, even a villain and a hero)
- The characters need to begin as obviously opposing forces; they can learn they're not so different, but that must come with natural development
- No matter how much collaboration goes on behind the scenes, the story has to be accessible to people who haven't read the planning
- The quality of the blurb counts. If you want critiques on it, check out Writers Corner
Each person can enter more than once with different partners. What you cannot do is enter two stories with the same partner.
Judges and Judging
- @Rosendorn
- @BrumalHunter
- @TheSilverFox
Each story will be judged as a wholistic unit, based on how well you play off each other and how well you highlight the differences between your two characters.
Conflict around their opposing forces is not mandatory. Extra points will be assigned if you can come up with a non-fighting way to highlight the fact they're opposites.
The two characters have to feel different. Visual clues for difference are not enough. If two characters behave the same way, approach problems the same way, and react the same way, they are not different even though one wears black and the other bright colours. They need different motives, reactions, and/or moral codes.
Reaching an ending is not mandatory. Feel free to keep going beyond 20 posts!
Timeline
You may only start July 1st, and the story has to be at least 20 posts long by July 31st. If a large number of people request an extension, then it might be granted.
The latest you can start a story is July 15th. This is simply to give you enough time to produce 20+ posts.
Entering
If you have a co-writer already in mind, post your two names on this thread.
If you don't have a co-writer in mind, post on this thread with an idea you have to make it easier for people to find you, and post here if you want to be part of the random draw.
If you want to be part of the random draw regardless of partnered status, post in this thread with your interest in the random draw
Names will be drawn from a hat on June 27th, and if there's enough late interest there'll be another random partner draw on July 13th. This is to give you enough time to start brainstorming an idea.
If you'd specifically like to write with somebody based on their idea, approach them to see if they're interested— you're still allowed to stay in the random draw, if you want to try your luck with two stories!
(in the random draw, no effort will be made to match like people/stories together)
