Warning: some of these publishers may be amateurs, servants of Cthulhu , or just jerks. Research before submitting: take a good look at the website; check if anyone has ever read a book published by them; check if there are any authors writing blogs about being mistreated by them.

It's been half a year since I posted this list of publishers. Since then one of them has published a thing by me, three more have just sent contacts, and another one is deliberating, and I very much like to think that this is just the beginning of a long, fun, and fulfilling journey.

So go for it, y'all, it's totally possible. And all my stuff that got picked up was first reviewed on this wonderful website. Under a bunch of identities, haha.

I haven't been active for a while, and I'll only symbolically active here from now on - suddenly there's so much to do... And yet - thank you YWS, thank you Nate, and thanks to all the members who ever helped me raise my level.

Penguin seems to be very easy to contact...

Hmmm, do they publish for...free?
Need some feed? Then read some! Take a look at today's Squills at In the News.

Here's a publisher list for people who want to have short books published. The first category is more or less respectable people accepting little books of around 10 000 words, or slightly more, or even less; the second category is for publishers accepting small books around 15K in length; the third category is for 20K.

That's for all you guys who don't want to jump into the mega novel writing trip yet, but feel you can write a bunch of tiny books which should be published.

ON PAYMENT - IMPORTANT: all the publishers listed pay royalties and do not take any money from the author. Never ever work with people who want to take money from you under any guise. Not 'for editing', not 'for copyright', not 'for design', not 'for marketing', not for anything.

Vanity publishing is for grannies who want the poems of their deceased husbands available to gift to relatives. Young Authors should steer clear of vanity publishers. Only ever work with people who pay you.

And once you have a few little things out with little non-vanity publishers - try to jump to the next level of agents and advance-paying publishers. Good luck to all.

P.S. Eight of my projects started here, of those five are already picked up, contracts and everything, two are still floating around, one will probably be cannibalized for something else.
Four short stories that appeared here first are published now as well.
YWS is a wonderful place to learn, so learn! :D

K is usually thousand. 50K= 50,000. So, 20K= they'll publish something 20,000 words long.

Whether or not you submit book proposals often depends on the publisher in question. Look into this yourself.

And, honestly, advances and payments can vary quite extensively depending on how well known you are, how much edits like the story, and the size of the publisher. There is no single "fair price" for a story.

If you are looking for a publisher beware of any who want you to pay them to publish and market your book, 9 times out of 10 you will be out thousands of dollars and nobody will buy your book.
Self-publishing is often the best option - self-publish, sell 500 to 1000 copies then send your sales results with a marketing plan with your manuscript.
