The 2011 contest is closed, but guidelines for the 2012 contest will be posted in the Fall. This one is a little more complex, requiring signatures and a great attention to the application process but it's huge!

Students submit their works to regional programs of The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards presented by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers and its Regional Affiliates. Students can earn opportunities for recognition, exhibition, publication and scholarships. Works designated as Gold Keys on the regional level are forwarded for national-level review where they can earn Silver Medals and Gold Medals. Students can submit in 30 categories, including Drawing, Painting, Photography, Film & Animation, Video Games, Poetry, Personal Essay, Short Story and Humor.

It had a perfectly round door like a porthole, painted green, with a shiny yellow brass knob in the exact middle. The door opened on to a tube-shaped hall like a tunnel: a very comfortable tunnel without smoke, with panelled walls, and floors tiled and carpeted, provided with polished chairs, and lots and lots of pegs for hats and coats—the hobbit was fond of visitors. The tunnel wound on and on, going fairly but not quite straight into the side of the hill —The Hill, as all the people for many miles round called it—and many little round doors opened out of it, first on one side and then on another.
