The Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award (http://www.poetrysociety.org.uk/content ... /fyp/about) is a key award for young writers aged 11-17. Each year 100 winners (85 Commendations and 15 Overall Winners) are selected by a team of high profile judges, and receive their awards at an annual prize-giving event on National Poetry Day. Last year was a record year - with a staggering 20,000+ poems entered from the UK and worldwide. The 15 Overall Winners attend a week-long intensive residential Arvon course or receive a poetry residency at their school followed by distance mentoring (age dependent), and have their poems published in the yearly Foyle Anthology. The competition is free to enter and writers must be aged 11-17 on the closing date of the 31st July 2011 to submit –see full rules on the website:

There are those who say that life is like a book, with chapters for each event in your life and a limited number of pages on which you can spend your time. But I prefer to think that a book is like a life, particularly a good one, which is well to worth staying up all night to finish.
