FEATURED MEMBER INTERVIEW: YOSHIKRAB
Image

written by ChesTacos < PM: >

A recent featured member to the site is @Yoshikrab! They can often be found in WriterFeed pads and they are relatively new to the site. I recently got a chance to interview them about this and this is what they had to say.

Squills: Heya! I'm a reporter with Squills, if it's OK with you can I interview you about becoming a featured member?

Yoshikrab: Sure!

S: OK great! So first of all what was your initial reaction to finding out you were the featured member?

Y: Haha it was first like 'wHAT?' and then it was just 'nAh fam' and then it was me laughing and re-reading the FM thread.

S: Lol OK! How do you think a featured member is decided or why do you think you became a featured member?

Y: I'm like 90% sure that-- well okay maybe 80% sure-- that all the mods come together in a meeting and they stare at each other for a sec and then just someone just suggests "hey there's that cool ywser over there, lets turn 'em into an FM" and then all the other mods just sit there, nodding, and playing candy crush on their phones.

i don't know why i became featured member.

really.

you'd think i'd say something like 'BRO it's cause i'm like super active and super nice!' but really i don't think i've been acting differently from everyone else so

maybe it was random???

S: Aha lol, do you have any suggestions for anyone trying to become a featured member?

Y: Not really. I mean, for all of you aspiring FMs, just review, post, write, and be crazy, and always look up to the Chaos Goddess @Carina!

S: OK and one more question before I wrap up this interview, do you have anyone you would like to thank? Any shoutouts or last words?

Y: I want to thank Carina for that hilarious FM thread (btw carina did you write it or did a whole lot of molds write it together??).

huh

um SHOUTOUT to the NANAVEERS Carina @SpiritedWolfe @Liebensteiner @Icon @lillianna @rida @forgottenparadise @luminescence @queenshadowgem @Stellarjay @Elinor @Vincian @ShadowVyper @whatchamacallit @ChesTacos

WE WILL CRUSH THE CARINANAS

*ahem*

(join nanaveer)

NANAVEERS

Thank you Yoshi for this interview and congrats on being featured member! If you'd like to congratulate this awesome user go ahead and say congrats at their Featured Member Announcement .

FEATURED MEMBER INTERVIEW: VEEREN
Image
written by Liebensteiner < PM: >

Our February 16, 2021 - March 3, 2021 featured member was one of YWS’ older members! He joined the site on the 10th of October in 2012. He started becoming active on the site around August of last year. Just a couple of months ago, in September-ish, he started to get more active in the Storybook section of the site. Recently, there has been talk of the #nanaveers and #veernanas … Is this part of #classified …? Is there a story behind these banana avatars with the faces of @veeren and @Carina…? Is there anything else to it?

Anyway, as you may have already guessed, veeren was the featured member on the 16th of February! I got the chance to interview him just a couple of days ago. :)

Squills: Heya! I'm a reporter for Squills and I was wondering if you were okay with being interviewed about your experience as FM?

veeren: awwww i would love to!!!

S: Ah awesome! So, the classic question: what was your reaction when you first found out you were FM?

v: well my initial reaction was "well it's about time I get the respect I deserve around here" but then I realized I'm only the center of everyone's life in my own head so I was really flattered and honored that I was even a suggestion for fm to begin with :,)

S: Haha that's wonderful! Why do you think you were chosen as FM in the first place?

v: honestly between my horrendous grammar and my lack of ability to form a single coherent thought im actually still trying to figure that one out

S: Gotcha xD What's your favorite part of the site?

v: oh im DEFINITELY most active in roleplays right now but poetry will always be where my heart is so i love browsing through all of the poetry lit works on the site <3

S: Ahh that's wonderful. <3 You say you're super active in the RP section of the site - what do you love most about it?

v: being able to collaborate with other people is ALWAYS fun. it's always nice to be held hostage accountable to write when you normally wouldn't have the motivation to do it on your own. not to mention all the memes i get to make and enjoy LOL

S: That sounds incredible! Alright, going back to the topic of FMs, if someone were to come to you for advice on how to become an FM, what would you tell them?

v: bold of you to assume someone would come to me for advice. IF THEY WERE TO however I would make sure to tell them to just try their best at whatever it is they're doing and make sure they have fun doing it. ALSO make sure to always be as helpful as possible : )

S: That's fantastic advice! Is there anything else you'd like to say or any shout-outs you'd like to make before I wrap up this interview?

v: oh man uhh I'd like to thank myself for being amazing first and foremost. I'd also like to thank you for allowing me to talk about myself during this interview, loved it. and finally I'd like to thank the friends that kept in contact with me off YWS who pushed me to come back on <3

S: Aw that's sweet! Thanks so much for taking time out to take this interview! <3

v: genuinely thank you for the chance I really did appreciate it :,,))) <3

Here’s the official announcement thread if you’d like to go check that out!

NAPO QUICK FACTS
Image

written by alliyah < PM: >

So for the month of March, information has been spinning all around the site and it might have been a lot to keep track of! Here's your quick facts if you're just tuning in now, or want all the most important information in one place.

What is NaPo?
Hmm, wouldn't you like to know! "NaPo" stands for "National Poetry Writing Month" and starts this April. You can post your poems in the NaPoWriMo Forum in your own poetry thread.

How many poems do I have to write?
Make your own goals! And shout them on your wall with the hashtag #NaPoGoals . You can actually earn a badge for writing and posting just 5 poems this year thought the "Classic Challenge" is going for 1 poem every day in April -> making it up to 30 total poems. Read more about the different badges and contests right here.

What do I do besides write poems?
Well there's a lot of ways to participate in NaPo! You can comment in threads to encourage others, you can take part in poetry jams , there also may be some other poetry activities during the month, but your best bet is to subscribe to the Information Thread for all the latest information.

WRITING PROMPTS: SPRINGTIME AND GROWTH
Image
written by EternalRain < PM: >

With Camp NaNo and NaPo right around the corner (April is a big month indeed!), I decided to create more writing prompts in the case that you need some extra inspiration for a poem on a slow day, a chapter idea, scene inspiration, or a story idea! Spring has just rolled around the corner, so I thought flowers, blossoms, and growth was an appropriate theme for these writing prompts. That being said, if these give you inspiration beyond or completely unrelated to themes like growth, go where your inspiration leads!

Prompt 1: Phrase Prompt

Use this phrase to come up with a story plot or scene! Or, you can break it up and use it as the first line(s) of your poem.

When the sun rose, the flowers sprung up

Prompt 2: Picture Prompt

Use this picture to inspire a poem or short story.

Image

Prompt 3: Three Words

A “three words” prompt is a writing prompt where you write a poem or short story based off the given three words. The three words must be present inside your work (or, can just be inspirations for other things in your work!).

whistling, raincoat, basket

Poetry Readers

The Poetry Readers
is new and improved!
Want to read lots of poetry?
Well then this is your groove!

That's right! A re-vamped Poetry Readers club is coming to YWSes near you this February! We'll still be discussing poems like before, but with a couple of *snazzy* twists. Instead of holding discussions in the club forum, we'll be meeting in a WriterFeedPad at the end of every month to discuss the poem together - in real time! And we won't just be discussing the poems of "famous" poets, we'll be discussing YWSer poems too. If that sounds like fun to you (trust me, it is!!), then subscribe to our club, and stay tuned for more information!

Contact Liminality and whatchamacallit for more information.

That's all folks~ Now send us yours.
