The Lunar Plains

The OOC Thread

Image

Brought to you by Saeverse Productions
&
Inspired By Stargate: Atlantis and The Bartimaeus Trilogy

One moment, you're living your daily life.

The next, you find yourself standing in the middle of unfamiliar grasslands.

You don't know how you got here. The last thing you remember is doing something that's relatively normal for you and your world. The only clue that you have is the warm humming in the air that dissipates as soon as you notice is presence—and even that only is present when you first find yourself here.

There are other people here, too. They're just as confused as you are. It's clear that you need some kind of civilization to find answers, but the only sign of people that you can find is an old house in the distance. If you squint, you can also make out something on the horizon. It almost looks like a ring; it must be taller than you are if you can see it from this far away.

You don't know yet, but you've accidentally ended up in a galaxy smack dab in the middle of an intergalactic conflict. You'll have to rely on two strangers if you want to navigate medieval worlds under threat from space-faring, life-sucking aliens and find a way home.

But your guides have secrets, and only time will tell what they're willing to do to hide them.

This roleplay involves a lot of planning, so please swing by the OOC thread if you're interested in joining! We don't need to scheme about too much at the very start of the roleplay, but we'll be doing a lot more scheming later on~.

Please don't post here until I've given you the go ahead over in the OOC thread!

Thank you!

The Cast

1. Arin + Sune [Magebird]
Spoiler! :
Arin: A girl somewhere in her mid-teens. She has long light brown hair that she wears in two braids running down her back and hazel eyes. She's wearing an outfit like the one down below, minus the headband and with a way more muted color scheme (more various shades of brown) that's more fitting of a medieval-esque society.

Image

Sune: A boy in his mid-teens who looks to be right around Arin's age. He has short, light brown hair that's a slightly more defined shade than Arin's. His eyes are more brown than hazel, but they're still a light shade of the color. He's also wearing a medieval-esque outfit, but this one is much simpler: a plain tan tunic, darker leggings, and a pair of leather boots. He's taller than Arin and slightly lankier than her.

2. Robyn [chikara]
Spoiler! :
Robyn (e/em/eir/emself) is a person in eir late teens, but most people mistake em to be younger because of eir innocent looking face and shorter height. E has shaggy, often unkempt chin-length hair that's bleached an ungodly shade of blond and has blue-ish grey coloured eyes.

Here is a drawing that looks like Robyn~
Image

Here is eir clothing, but instead of that green tone, the jacket is coloured something closer to wine red~
Image
(Robyn also wears bunny slippers at all times because they're simple, they're pink, and they look hecking fashionable.)

3. Winn [HarryHardy]
Spoiler! :
Name: Winston Lingard Schott aka Winn....yes win with two n's
Superhero Name: Icyle Yes he's a superhero...but ehh..nearly all my characters are.
Species: Nosidhan Superior
Planet of Origin: Venia {You can probably ignore both of those names but ehh...I thought I would put them in to make this more complete}
Age: 24
Powers: He's basically the dimensional teleportation specialist of the team but I am taking that power away from him for obvious reasons...cause otherwise he would take one look at an unfamiliar world and yeet himself out of there. So he's left with basically two powers....one is that he's very obviously an ice wizard {refer terrible pun/ superhero nickname] but the catch is that of course, he needs to have actual water on hand to use that ability. He does carry a water bottle though...so...that's something...he can make himself an ice sword or something I guess....
He also has the ability to generate concentrated blasts of energy from his eyes...kind of like the mutant cyclops but obviously with wayyy more control and also much less destructive.

Aaand physically his species is a bit stronger than humans...and he's a pretty average, lean dude so...he's about as strong as a generally strong human, the difference is probably not too noticeable.

NOw for the description...he's going to probably be wearing his superhero outfit, and that's easier so I'll go with that. He's got brown hair, and brown eyes, and is about 5 6". He's pretty thin, not overly so, but definitely not fat. He's going to be wearing a long silver trench coat, and dark blue combat boots. He will be wearing dark blue gloves as well, with a small waterbottle strapped to his side. He also uses a dagger to fight, cause that pairs well with his teleporting around but since he can't use that power, I'll just upgrade that to a sword. And its pretty much a standard issue Venian sword, which is to say, its a little stronger than steel, has a bit of a blue flair to it, but yeah, its got a generic grip and he hasn't bothered to customize it with any initial or anything. It also has no special abilities.

And yeah that's about it...I don't think I should go into his backstory at this point....that's a bit too much..

His personality though...its usually pretty easygoing with people he knows, he's generally fairly cautious around people he doesn't know, but this one is definitely not of my shy characters, there will be lots more talking and hopefully a couple of terrible jokes...although sadly he's not one of my snarky ones...

4. Andaður einn [Stellarjay]
Spoiler! :
Name: Andaður einn (pronounced And-our-eiea in Icelandic, it means "spirited one".)
Age: (she is immortal so this doesn't matter) (she can die from being killed)
Pronouns: she/her/herself
Gender: Binary
Powers: She is a shapeshifter. Which means she can transform into an elf, elk and river whenever she pleases.
Backstory: Andaður einn comes from a hidden valley named Gljúfrabúi. Her valley is young, only about 100 years old. Before she was thrust into this new adventure the 3 other dieties in her realm were training her to become the deity of safeguarding.
Image

5. Medea [LadyMysterio]
Spoiler! :

Name: Medea
Age: Immortal
Species: is an imp but has a human form. She goes between the two whenever she pleases.
Gender: female
Powers: She can shapeshift between her true imp form and a human one. She also can
Backstory/personality: Medea is an imp. She will prank you, with no regret how far that prank might go. But she's also a guardian and she takes her guardian task very seriously.
She wears a stone headdress that sorta may be cursed to her(its a long story) But in her words, she just never takes it off because flames tend to be prone to bad hair days.

She guards a treasure hidden deep within an ancient mountain and usually wanders the tunnels, playing pranks on anyone who stumbles upon the mysterious passages. What else does one do when bored anyway? She also might have accidentally caused an avalanche once be she screamed " I DO WHAT I WANT AND NO ONE CAN STOP ME" because she was really really bored and wanted the world to know that for no reason.
Image

6. Esprill [TheMythMaster]
Spoiler! :

Name: Esprill, Surgon
Race: Eastern elve
Weapons: Ates and Cubag
Age: 573 yrs, so like 16 in human years
Height: 7 ft
Powers: his double swords Ates and Cubag have a personality of their own and their power can vary depending on who is using them. (example if Esprill gave them to an enemy, they could choose to be incredibly blunt and barely be able to cut anything, but if Esprill is using them they can be strong enough to cut through some metals) he is also very stealthy.

Arin never liked cloudy days. Seeing a sheet of gray instead of endless light blue was upsetting on its own, but not having the warmth of the sun made it even worse. She had started to guess it was because of that, but Sune wasn't all that bothered by the cloudy skies.

Speaking of Sune, she still hadn't convinced him to go with her to another world today. He usually gave in on dreary days like today, but they really did need to check out their own world to make sure there was nothing that needed to be taken care of there. Right now, they were in the forests that surrounded the grasslands. Sune was in the middle of checking one of the traps, but then her eyes caught a glimpse of color.

She crouched down next to a bush filled with berries.

"Do you think these are ripe yet?" she asked, grabbing one of the berries and holding it in between her fingers.

Sune glanced back. "Probably not-"

Well, there was only one way to test it. She threw it in her mouth.

"Arin, no-"

"It's ripe," she confirmed. She grabbed a handful of them and went to join him over by one of the traps. He looked as exasperated as he always did when she made impulsive decisions, but she was fine. The berries really were ripe this time! She wasn't going to get a stomachache from eating them like she did a week ago.

He opened his mouth like he was going to berate her further, but then he froze. There had been a strange warmth to the air, and a weird humming, too. It was gone almost as soon as they noticed it, but...

The two exchanged a look.

"The wraiths couldn't have found this world," Sune said, not sounding all that certain of it.

"Darts don't feel like that," Arin confirmed, slightly more certain. "This is something else. Maybe something good, maybe something bad—either way, we definitely need to check it out!"

Winston hurried down the corridor towards the cafeteria. He had spent entirely too long writing that last report. Why on Earth he had volunteered to do that whole thing by himself, he would never know.

At any rate, he had to grab some dinner from the cafeteria before they ran out or he was going to have to go home and cook, something that he was not in the mood to be doing that day.

He blinked and suddenly he wasn't in the brightly lit white corridors of the VDF. He was in some sort of grassland. He blinked rapidly, rubbing his eyes. Had he spent so long staring at the stupid computer that he was now starting to hallucinate?

Then he heard it. Some sort of warm humming in the air. What in the name off Celestia was that? Did some sort of insect break through their filtration system? He rubbed his eyes rapidly, trying to process what was going on. Nothing changed.

Then his shoulder suddenly heated up and burst into flame. He slapped at his coat, blowing on it vigorously before he remembered his water bottle, opening the lid and letting it flow out and douse the flames on his coat.

Once the panic of being on fire wore off, he realized what had just happened. The location tracker on his suit had overheated, which could only mean one thing. He was very, very far from home.

He looked around.

Today was going to be a great day. Robyn was already smelling breakfast cooking, and the alarm clock hadn't even rung out. But bacon didn't usually smell so poignantly like a fire. "They must've used that darned turkey bacon again." e muttered, "I swear I told them it was cursed or something."

Robyn shifted and reached for eir phone, but the only thing next to em was grass and even more grass. Dead grass. Very dead grass that fell apart in eir fingers when e grabbed at it.

E had read an article called "Ten helpful tips to guide you if you get dumped in a field" before, so e was a self-proclaimed expert at this sort of thing. Everyone e knew got taught that if someone gets kidnapped and dumped in a field, it's the kidnapper's courtesy to have it be healthy grass, anyway.

That problem was finally temporarily out of the way for Robyn, but it was the least of eir concerns of being alone in the middle of nowhere and having to deal with an odor of mud oozing from eir slippers.

Robyn kicked eir legs in the air in an attempt to rid eir body of the slippers. Nothing happened. E kicked again and again, and off they went. "Might as well keep these somewhere safe," e sighed and went to go for eir satchel. Of course, the bag full of eir food, water, and clothing changes was gone, too.

The worst place to be when barefoot is an unknown grass field, and almost everyone e knew got taught that as well.
I love you as certain dark things are to be loved,

Character sheet
Name: Esprill, Surgon
Race: Eastern elve

Age: 573 yrs, so like 16 in human years

From: the eastern elven kingdom, Viterra
Powers: his double swords Ates and Cubag have a personality of their own and their power can vary depending on who is using them. In a world far from our own, strange things were happening, on the plains of a desolate planet, a strange being had appeared, he was tall, ruff looking and on his back were carried two swords two beautiful swords of which much strife had been brought about and many a friendship broken. His attire was of a simple wood elve look, a green cloak, and leather boots along with a simple green tunic.
looking around he pulled out his swords and took a battle stance expecting an ambush of some kind, perhaps it isn't what you would have done but after many attempts on his life, Esprill, Surgon, for that was his name, was not to be trifled with and had in fact been expecting attack when he had been whisked from his camp in a forest to this strange place, and a strange place it was, as I have said before a large desolate plain of which Esprill could not see the end, it had a slight mist to it and in the distance could be seen the outline of what looked to be a cabin, or perhaps only the ruins of what once was.

After a long wait, when Esprill was sure he could hear nothing but utter silence and the sound of his heartbeat, he put his swords away and, pulling his cloak around him against the cold began to walk on in what to him was a random direction, keeping the cabin to his right so as to not get lost. as he went on, and as time passed Esprill began to think about his predicament, originally he assumed his instant transportation was via a spell, but know as time went on was starting to realize that he was not in fact in the elven kingdom at all, for he knew of many types of plants, even of those a thousand days journey from his camp, and yet the plants and grass covering these misty plains was of a kind he knew not at all, meaning that, perhaps he was indeed not still on Viterra at all, unlike most this did not come as a very big shock to him, in fact, he was rather invigorated by the thought, for he had already traveled much of his homeland and quite enjoyed the challenge of exploring a new one, though he was also wary for knew only a very powerful being could have taken him so far from Viterra and so he kept his swords at the ready and continued on with caution....

Medea tilted her head from side to side, swaying slightly as she strode down the dark corridor. Shadows fled and sprung out as the blue flames flowing from her headdress swayed with her.

"What to do oooh what to do," her strangely echoing sounding voice sounded eerie as it travelled down the tunnel, "Ooh what do toooooooooooooo."

She sighed, "Why can't more humans wander in, they are always so spooked" laughing she spun then crept up to bend in the tunnel," I go like this and then go' She sprang out "OOH I AM THE GUARDIAN OF THE MOUNTAIN HOW DARE YOU DESTURBE ME! Then they scamper off like rats. Hehehe."

Skipping down another dark hall, she grabbed the stone pillar marking one side of a large doorway. Swinging until she almost slammed into the rock wall on the other side. She swivelled on her heel, facing the way she had come.

Medea raised her leg, preparing to jump through the doorway she'd just swung through.

She jumped.
Then fell.
Onto soft thin sticks?
Medea sprung up, blinking at the suddenly newfound terrain she found herself in " AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!WHERES THE MOUNTAIN! WHERE AM I."

The imp spun, her feet slipping on the dirt and tall dry grass, dumping her onto the ground.

She let herself stay on her back on the ground. panic flooding her pale face as she stared up at the unfamiliar blue expanse.
"whereamiwhereami "She muttered
quickly,"itsjustadreamyourstillagoodgaurdian."

She sat up. "nono it's a test, it must be a test, I'm not really here. Yes," she concluded standing up.
Lifting her face to the sky she yelled,"JUST TELL ME WHAT I HAVE TO DO I HATE TESTS CAN WE GET THIS OVER WITH."

Andaður einn was sitting on her knees with her arms raised. “Lords and Ladies of High, show me the way.” She sat in silence. The room was circular, with arches that reached up to the ceiling. Inscriptions of an ancient language were sketched all the way up the walls and around a little pin hole in the ceiling that let in light. In the middle of the room was a pedestal, on it was the scale of Morgunstjarna. (An ancient beast of old.) Andaður einn rose from the floor and touched the scale with her index and middle finger. She made her way to the door, but as she stepped through it there was a blinding flash.
Andaður einn screamed as she was flung into the never ending cosmos. She flew past entire galaxies and universes. The sounds of rustling trees and bustling cities came to her, until it was so loud she could barely hear herself. Then it stopped.
With a jolt, it was over. Andaður einn fell onto prickly grass. It was quiet and still. She pushed herself up from the ground and looked around. This was not her home at all, the fields weren’t green and the river was non-existent.
“This must be where the Lords and Ladies of High wanted me to go.” she thought to herself. So she kneeled down and began to pray for guidance and strength to overcome any challenges that might come her way.

It didn't take long for them to exit the forest.

The humming and the warmth still hadn't returned, but the air felt different. Sune was still teaching Arin how to be more in-tune with the elements, so she couldn't really pinpoint it. She wasn't really sure he could pinpoint it, either. They were almost the exact same age, and Sune hadn't really been taught by anyone.

When they first exited the forest, all that Arin could make out was little figures on the horizon. It looked like there was five of them. She felt a little pit in her gut at that, and Sune even muttered something about that being the perfect size for a wraith scouting party. But she hadn't seen any darts and the ring never made the air feel like it did now, so she was trying to stay optimistic.

Her optimism paid off. It only took a few more seconds (mainly because she was running) for her to see that the people standing in the grasslands weren't really wraiths. But they also weren't entirely...normal, either. Some of their clothing looked totally unfamiliar, and a few of them had pointed ears. Arin hadn't ever seen someone with pointed ears before.

"Hi-" Arin started to exclaim with a wave, but then Sune's hand shot out from behind her and grabbed onto her arm.

"Arin," he whispered, "their auras feel off. I haven't checked the planes, either, but two of them feel like they don't match what we're seeing right now."

Arin glanced back at him.

"But they look confused," she pointed out, voice quiet.

"We should still help them," Sune agreed. His grip on her arm tightened for a second before he finally let go. "We just need to be careful."

Arin gave a nod.

Now that Sune wasn't holding her back, she rushed over to the group of people. One of them was tall—easily seven feet or maybe even more. Arin wondered what it would be like to be that tall. It must have been weird to look down on other people all the time.

"Hi," she said again, this time more audible. "Did you just come through the ring? I don't think anyone's ever come through there while we've been here."

A moment later, Sune came to a stop beside her. He didn't say anything. He just stood there, silently watching and observing the group that was near them. Arin pretended like she didn't notice how he moved a little closer to her.

Winn saw two people approaching them. They looked relatively normal at first glance and they both looked to be in their mid teens. The looked to be whispering to each other as they came, although it was too quiet for Winn to make out.

Then the girl came upto them and asked them about coming through some ring. Winn frowned.

"Uhh...hi," said Winn, "umm...I don't know about any ring, but uhh...I kinda got just yeeted over here in the middle of my day and I have nooo idea we're we are. Do you have any idea where we are?"

as Esprill was walking he eventualy came a upon some others who were milling about, evedentlly also brought here randomly

"ah yes you there," he said walking up to three people who appeared to be talking and who looked perhaps the least threatening

it was two simple looking teenagers wearing, rather strange clothes, and another man wearing a silver coat and blue boots

"yes, erm uh my name is Esprill Surgon, Elve and hunter, and I came here by some form of magic, do any of you kind sirs, and madam know how or why I am here, and if I can get back though I can't say I mind if I have to stay here all that long I would like to know if I'm stuck here?"

he looked from one to the other, "also, do you know if that, imp creature is, to say the least, dangerous" he said pointing to the strange being, a little way off to his left.

Arin and Sune glanced at each other.

Even though they tragically couldn't telepathically communicate, which Arin had always considered to be a horrible injustice committed against the both of them, Arin was pretty good at reading what Sune was thinking. Mainly because they probably had the same exact thought right now: that wasn't what an imp looked like.

But what was even weirder was how there were at least two people here, probably more, that hadn't come through the ring and didn't know how they had gotten here in the first place. That didn't make any sense.

"I'm not sure what brought you here," Sune said, "but I don't think it was magic. The ring might have malfunctioned."

Arin crossed her arms and glanced over at him. "But you have to go through the ring to go places," Arin pointed out. "And the guy with the blue boots said he didn't even know anything about rings. Magic's not supposed to do things like kidnap people, but rings aren't supposed to, either..."

Arin furrowed her brow and pursed her lips, clearly deep in thought.

Sune gave them an awkward smile.

"I'm sorry we can't help you more."

His gaze traveled over to the "imp" that wasn't an imp, a distant look momentarily clouding his eyes. It was only when Arin gave him a little nudge that he snapped out of it.

Now Arin was giving a look, this time directed at Esprill.

"It's rude to talk about someone like they're not close enough to part of the conversation," she scolded him. "You could ask her yourself if she's dangerous."

She paused, putting her hands on hips.

"I'm Arin, by the way," she added. She raised an arm. Wrapping said arm around Sune's shoulder, she pulled him close and a little bit lower. "And this is Sune. We've been best friends since forever, and traveling musicians since we were old enough to play instruments. You're on Miri right now—this is the world Sune and I live on."

"Ohh," said Winn, quickly trying to wrap his around all of that. "Well, that's a lot to think about, magic and rings, those two have just never gone well together anyway. But you said this was Miri, well I've never heard of it, but, uhh, I suppose at least I know what to call this place now. I'm Schott, Winston Schott, but everyone calls me Winn, with two n's, that's important."

He offered a hand for them to shake. "Nice to meet you Arin and Sune."

Andaður einn finished her prayer. A few feet away, some Beings were speaking. They all looked so strange, except for one who had pointed ears. But even he looked a little, well, off. She softly walked to them. They seemed to only have just begun speaking to eachother.
“Greetings.” Andaður einn dipped her head in greeting.
“Where am I and how did I get here?” She pointed to the ground.

Medea stared at the sky, squinting, "anything??" She glared at it, then looked back down at the plain she stood in. Tilting her head as she spotted other beings, "humans? No not all of them. But humans don't get tests, must just look human."

Her ears pricked, picking up a voice nearby, she turned towards the source, frowning. The source looked human, male, chatting with what looked like two other humans. She squinted at him, "you better believe I'm dangerous. Heh, maybe I can scare him."

Sauntering over, occasionally wincing at the strange prickly tall grass, she stopped behind the human-looking man, tapping him on the shoulder, "Oh you mean little ol' me?"

Arin shook Winn's hand.

"It's nice to meet you, too," she replied, grinning. Taking a step back and lowering her hand, she let Sune shake Winn's hand, too. Then she turned to the other person who was asking what was going on. Arin felt like she'd be trying to answer that question a lot—she wasn't really sure how much everyone was paying attention at the moment. The not-imp and the guy who had insulted her seemed like they were starting up a conversation now, too.

"You're on Miri!" Arin offered. "We're not sure how you got here, but we'll figure it out. It wasn't the ring, though, and it definitely wouldn't have been magic. Magic doesn't work like that."

Sune gave Arin a quick look.

"Magic doesn't work at all," Sune corrected. "Magic doesn't exist."
