They assume everyone was born with their powers, or perhaps took a few years to realize the truth about themselves. Some posing as normal people though had kept their unique abilities quiet besides for a precious few individuals.

Whichever these curious beings were powered, the world knows of their kind now. Inspired by the X-Men comics, regular humans have decreed them "X-People" whether any of them appreciate the title or not. The name's stuck for the last few years, leaving some bemused or completely annoyed.

Regardless, X-People vary in appearances, abilities, and attitudes. Plenty have decided to be good people and fight those that decided to turn to crime instead, as why not? As long as no one knows the truth about them, everyone can live a double life.

Of course, as the original comic books discovered, sentiments and circumstances can severely change one's mind towards their powers or others, but the humans can only hope nothing drastic will happen.

Spoiler! :
Currently one character for now - the awkward-as-heck Jeff Jonsin, as developed in the Superpowered SB.

Since I'm not really changing his character much, I'll base him primarily on his CP, but here's a shortened version:

Jeff goes by "Jewel" as his "x-name" as he sparkles as he uses his speed. His power is a modest one, as in he can run really fast, but he really can't control it, and usually only moves in times of chaos and very very necessary moments. Jeff likes to wear plain clothes, basic dark shirt/shorts. Dark-brown hair, brown eyes, pretty short dude, wears glasses and beanies. As Jewel, he wears contacts, slicks his hair back, and wears exercise clothes. Jeff laughs a lot in awkward situations, and does as well as Jewel, so people usually don't take him seriously and look at him weird. He tends to feel isolated.

Spoiler! :
I'm also going to add a character from Superpowered into this roleplay, but I'll be using her Tumblr about page instead. Her name is Wren Carter, and that link basically goes into everything you'd need to know about her.

As Jewel, he felt a freedom that came with the uniform. Jeff never really felt that he could be someone else in his life, besides being online of course, so the sort of anonymity he could step into was entirely something else.

Jeff pushed back his hair, grimacing at the light coating of gel on his fingers. Eugh. Maybe the weird hairdo was too much, but it all added into his "mysterious" superhero facade. Or so he hoped.

Currently, though, the city had fallen quiet during the midnight hours, and it wasn't like his power of never being able to run fast until inopportune times wasn't that helpful.

Jeff sighed. Might as well send out a message to the "X-Whatever" group chat he had with a few of the other "powered" beings in the area.

Yo, he typed onto his phone, Jewel here signing off for the night. I'll check back in tomorrow. Nothing unusual to report.

He started his slow walk back to his tiny apartment.

Wren got the message while she was sitting in a dark alleyway, typing up an English essay on her phone. The essay wasn't due for a few more days, but it was always hard to tell how much free time she would have on a given day. Now, in the dead of the night, with adrenaline to fuel her and the speedy fingers of The Actor, she was able to get more work done on the essay than she had in class earlier that day.

Night, she typed back. A simple, one letter word - Wren honestly didn't trust herself to send anything else. Everyone thought she was better at the superheroing thing than she really was, and she didn't want to ruin how they viewed her.

She looked over the essay, and decided that it was a good time to stop for the day. Even though some major villain could come and pose a threat to her weekend, she could find some other time to work on it.

Wren slipped her phone into her pocket, stretched and headed back out onto the street.

Resh was sitting on the railing of his balcony, enjoying the cool night air as he worked on a project for his business. He hadn't yet changed out of his costume, but wore it sloppily, with his mask inside on the kitchen table and the zipper zipped halfway down his back. He got overheated easily, but was often too focused on his tasks to take the time to change when he got home.

His current focus, a small series of ice sculptures for some fancy party the next day, was almost finished. He was detailing the face of a swan (resigned to the cliche subject- it was what his customer had asked for) when his phone started buzzing in his pocket.

Thinking it might be a business call, he set the sculpture carefully on the table and checked it.

His nose wrinkled a little in annoyance- the notifications were from the superhero group chat he'd joined. It was useful, he had to admit- it kept them from stepping on each other's toes on missions, and granted instant help to the heroes that couldn't handle something on their own. But on the other hand-

Night. he read, under Jewel's nightly check-in.

-they didn't have to text when there was no problem. It was unnecessary. He did a lazy sweep of his surroundings, and glanced back at his phone, typing up the obligatory response.

All quiet on the east-central side. Signing off.

Pocketing his phone again, he turned his attention back to his sculpture, it's coldness in his lap a soothing, familiar feeling- completely different from how communicating with his fellow heroes felt.

The next day, Jeff skipped happily along the roof, accompanied by his two buddies-of-a-sort (but don't tell them that.) Sub-Zero with his flash of white hair and the Actor cool as ever walked beside him, with much calmer movements than his admittedly erratic ones.

Their city had been quiet for a while now, the last villain a misunderstood teenager who couldn't control their fire abilities and accidentally burnt down a whole row of houses. That was a month ago, and while he liked the peacefulness that surrounded him, he could admit that he was starting to feel antsy.

He would regret those thoughts the moment he heard a scream cut through the silence. Jeff jumped to attention, tugging on his gloves before turning to the other figures.

"Looks like it's our time to shine!" He said, then turned to the nearest ladder to help him down to the street. Being on the roof might not have been the smartest idea but it made him feel more like an actual superhero at least. He could hear the other two behind him start to move as well.

Here went nothing.

As Jewel started down the ladder, Wren let the beginnings of adrenaline take over. She didn't usually travel by rooftop, but she never want to make Jewel feel bad - seeing him disappointed always made her feel bad. But it wasn't her first time coming from above, so she made a pair of black, angelic wings burst from her back and flew down to the ground below.

Resh understood the Jewel's relief of a sort when they heard the call of danger. The city had been far too quiet lately, which had been reason enough for the morning patrol. Though it was always a good thing for nothing to be amiss, there came times where it was simply unnerving.

His ice already drummed at his hands as Jewel took the ladder, the air chilling around him in kind. He sent a blast down the side of the building, sliding down as he went. Otherwise, the ladder would have frozen.

When he joined the other two, he naturally inclined his head toward the Actor, as if waiting for instruction.

"Split up or head on?" He asked briskly, his hands held in front of him.

She tried her best to ignore the growing pit of anxiety in her gut, but it stubbornly remained as she mulled over their options.

"Head on," she decided. She was worried it wasn't going to be the right choice, but she didn't have the time to be indecisive. She made her wings disappear and looked over at Jewel, trying to see if he agreed with her.

Jeff slid off the ladder, stumbling onto the ground. He looked up to see SubZero make a way too awesome ice slide, and wow, the Actor looked really cool with wings. He still got caught in fanboy mode around these two, buyer he couldn’t let that distract him right now.

He felt someone’s gaze on him, which spurred him to meet the eyes of the Actor. Jeff let the other’s statement filter through his head, before nodding in agreement. If all three of them were together, facing the villain would hopefully be easier with a straightforward strategy.

“Sounds fine to me,” he added, in case his nod wasn’t noticed. “Let’s go.”

Jeff started to pick up his feet, trying to spur his power into kickstarting. The person who screamed sounded fairly close to their position, but super speed would really be nice right about now to cut the distance into a few seconds.

At least he was a decent runner outside of his speed.

Wren started running towards the scream before Jewel's powers kicked in. He would undoubtedly pull ahead of her once he used them, and she didn't want to leave him by himself for the extra time it took both her and SubZero to get there.

Resh took the rear, propelling himself with more ice blasts and he alternatively ran and slid. His body was tensed, though from what was visible of his facial expression, he was more at ease than would be expected.

Within a short period (Jeff’s speed kicked in for enough time that the trip was quick), they arrived at the scene of a group of people yelling and running in opposite directions. Directly in front of him hovered someone who was laughing maniacally and shooting out actual lightning bolts.

So far, no one seemed hurt, mostly terrified and exhausted, which was a good sign. Maybe this person was more interested in simply creating chaos rather than actual targeting regular humans. He was about to step forward when flames started to appear within a nearby apartment complex.

Whelp, at least there were three of them. Sub-Zero could hopefully stop the fire, while he and the Actor distracted the Lightning Rod (or so he subbed the villain.)

“So, uh, maybe Sub-Zero could put out the flames?” Jeff glanced meekly at the other two superheroes. “Does that sound ok?”
