It's because you're too new! YWS chat doesn't let new members in for the first 24 hours, so they can get a feel for the site and don't have to be told about the rules so much when they first enter. :) YWS has some "odd" rules according to the rest of the Internet, because we're a writing site. So we don't allow shortened words and swearing (little siblings/parents can be reading over teenagers' shoulders), and ask for proper English. The staff figures that, after 24 hours looking around YWS, members would pick that up.

The rules, by the way, are right here if you want to read them in full before you get into chat!

"The trouble with Borrowing another mind was, you always felt out of place when you got back to your own body, and Granny was the first person ever to read the mind of a building. Now she was feeling big and gritty and full of passages. 'Are you all right?' Granny nodded, and opened her windows. She extended her east and west wings and tried to concentrate on the tiny cup held in her pillars."
