Hi! Okay, so people keep asking me this question about how to post youtube videos on YWS, so I'm going to make a tutorial about that. If you have any further questions about this, then please post them here! However, I will warn you that the emphasis will be on youtube videos and nothing else. Hopefully that will be adequate!

Also, just as a quick note, pleeeeeeeeeeease only post family-friendly videos that you would share on the normal YWS forums. If there is something a little risque or violent or has a lot of foul language, please post the video in spoilers with a warning that it has risque or violent content or a lot of foul language. Remember, if you use YWS for spreading porn, you will be banned from YWS, no questions asked.

Okay, now that I've said this... onwards to the technical stuff!

1. Find a youtube video that you want to share.

2. Copy the link. For the purposes of this tutorial, I chose this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ZRUHN2ABzc

3. In your comment, post the link with media tags around it, like so:

Code: Select all
[media]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ZRUHN2ABzc[/media]

4. You should see the following:

phpBB [media]

TA DA! That's it. You just posted a video! Cool, huh?

(For the super old way to do it that doesn't work anymore, but it amuses me how many steps there were, click the spoiler. Just know that the instructions there are obsolete and will not work anymore.)

Spoiler! :
1. Find a youtube video that you want to share and that has the option to embed. For the purposes of this tutorial, I chose this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ZRUHN2ABzc

QUICK NOTE: Some youtube videos will not allow you to embed.

2. Click: "embed"

3. You should see an option that says: "Use old embed code [?]" Select this an an option.

4. You should get a blurb of code that looks like this:

<object width="420" height="345"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/2ZRUHN2ABzc?version=3&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/2ZRUHN2ABzc?version=3&amp;hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="420" height="345" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

The code might look long and scary. Don't freak out... you don't need to understand the technical details. Also, if you get code that is shorter than this, it won't work. Make sure to use the old embed code.

5. The important bits of this code are the things bolded:

<object width="420" height="345"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/2ZRUHN2ABzc?version=3&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/2ZRUHN2ABzc?version=3&amp;hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="420" height="345" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

6. Take these three important things bolded and put it in the following format:

Code: Select all
[flash=420,345]http://www.youtube.com/v/2ZRUHN2ABzc?version=3&amp;hl=en_US[/flash]

7. You should see the following:

And that's it! :)

Again, if you have any questions, feel free to ask. Hope this helps! :D

Thanks for the tutorial, Snoink! I was going to ask you about it myself but kept forgetting. :)

Perfect video, haha ^-^. I didn't know you could use bbcode on your feed - I'll have to remember that.

Ok, so all the youtube videos I'm looking at or would like to share have a code like this: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Ax7tmaYObIQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Much, more shorter...
So..any help with this??
Maybe I'm not reading it right or not fully understanding..??

@pkidchick - This guide is a few years old and the code is a lot simpler these days! Just paste the link in between the tags [ media ]*link here*[ /media ] without the extra spaces.

@Snoink, I tried to upload a video and it said the URL was not supported. It did that no matter what video I tried to post. What did I do wrong? D:

Edit: A bunch of pictures around the site suddenly aren't showing. I don't know if that's just my internet being weird?

Eek! That's no good! @RoseAndThorn, what is the link to the video and what did you put as far as code?

You can show your code by putting it around code quotes, like this:

Code: Select all
[code]This my code:

[media]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ[/media][/code]

If you show me the link and show me your code, maybe I can figure out what happened! :o

(Sorry, I missed the notif for your reply @Snoink)
I did try various videos, but I think this was the one I was aiming for originally-

Code: Select all

(four years late I know, but this issue has plagued me for ages and I finally figured out what the problem was, so I thought I'd post this here just in case any future video-sharers came looking for answers)

So the problem is in the link you're using, and it's easy enough to fix as it happens. The link you used, like the one I just tried to post, has an 'm' instead of a 'www' as the third-level domain. As far as I can tell, that happens when you copy the link from the mobile site(m is for mobile I guess?), but I'm not totally sure yet. All you have to do is replace the 'm'(after the 'https://' and before the '.youtube'), for example,

Code: Select all
[media]https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=uYOmtEcZ1lk[/media]

should be changed to

Code: Select all
[media]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYOmtEcZ1lk[/media]

I hope this helps!
