I have created the Earth. I followed a tutorial by Andrew Price on Blenderguru, so I give some credit to him for helping me make this, but this is a creation of my hands and not stolen art.

Pre-completed Image before I added cloud cover and atmospheric coloring.

First Image I rendered
Image

The Americas.
Image

You can notice as America goes to the dark side how the city lights begin to pop on.
Image

And we see Africa.
Image

Australia.
Image

Lastly, Australia in the dark and some ocean.

Thoughts and opinions please.

Vary vary well done! It's as if your actually looking at Earth from space. Who did you get the clouds to look so real?
Hey, if it was easy, everyone would be doing it, so get out there and do it!

It's not a drawing, it's a 3D model from Graphic design program known as Blender. As for the clouds, they are actual pictures of clouds taken from space with all the land underneath them removed. They are overlayed on top of an orb with the empty spaces between them turned transparent to the terrain beneath.

This is the program I am using: http://www.blender.org/
It is open source, meaning it is completely free and you can modify it using C++ programming. If you have any interest of using this program and would like my help learning it, feel free to contact me.

that was, quite frankly, epic. Loved the light/glare effects. course then I'm an amatuer cinematographor so lighting's sort of one of my great joys/obsessions.
Great job, have was this animated? If not, you should think about doing some vector stuff, you'd be awesome at it.
