Trying to do something semi-productive while stuck inside - today I started working on some digital doodling which I really don't know the first thing about, but like to try to make little random pictures once in a while. I love those little poems that have little sketches off to the side and so am trying to mimic that simple style.

Here you go!
(also this isn't clear at all by my pictures but these are supposed to look like zebra finches which are my favorite type of birds)

Shape Poems / Poetry Art: NaPo 2020

anxious | breathing
Image

notice I used the bird from above?

fragments | teacup

isolation
Image

note: it's made of a bunch of little "i's" to signify how we're all doing this isolation thing at the same time and also how isolation can magnify the sense of being overwhelmed with the self.

and here we are again
Image

in case you can't tell I'm kind of interested in the idea of "unreadable" poetry, or poetry that is like physically difficult to read - this poem is supposed to make the reader feel a bit claustrophobic, overwhelmed, and like they're going in circles to match with the mood of the words of the poem too; sometimes when I post poems like this I find it ironic that someone will inevitably comment, "this was hard to read" -- that's the point! that is why it's formatted that way

poetry in plain sight

More bird doodles???

You want more bird doodles??? yes? no? Well either way here you go!

Image
chicken/hen was for napo -> but more baby chickens & colors added to the front one now. And then the other one is kind of a chubby blue macaw or blue parrot inspired by @LoonyMaroony (scribbly & color added versions included because I love them both)- > maybe I will try to doodle a blue-gold one later to look more like him :) and if I get really ambitious maybe I'll try to doodle @TheEgg??? not sure my art skills are there yet.

okay and adding this in case you were really disappointed that my blue macaw kind of takes some artistic liberties as far as actually looking like a blue macaw. :] I promise I will try to actually make a bird doodle that looks like our friend LoonyMaroony soon.

Image
^drew this guy for @CaptainJack in April 2020

Also what are other cool birds I could doodle? bonus points if they are really easy to draw and don't have feet. :]

Ooh I really love the bottom one you made for CaptainJack, especially the triangle-ish shapes of light and dark blue on its chest!

I don't know if you've done these, but mourning doves and tucans could make cute doodles?

I am rediculously bad at pigeons/doves although I love them with my whole heart. I shall definitely try a toucan though!!! Thank you whatcha!

Edit: Okay we've got more colorful bird doodles! A chicken, a blue-gold macaw, and a toucan! :)

Oh I love the eye on that toucan - it's so cute <3 The poses for the macaw and chicken have so much character in them, too! It's like dramatic energy or something haha

Thanks Liminality! :) those three birds turned out great I think ~ the toucan might be my favorite.

Here's my bird doodles that I made for the Checklist Challenge Prizes kind of arranged together.

Image
running out of types of birds to try, ideas?

I'm also doing inktober in the inktober club this year again for fun - and so far I really like how this one turned out!

Image

I've got some artsy poetry I might post in here later this month too if I can finish editing it up at some point.

So this is somewhat artsy, if you haven't seen my profile background for Christmas - it looks like this repeating:
Image

so when the image is repeated it looks like this ...
Image

it's some of my old red & green avatars just arranged in a star / kaleidoscope repeating etc. they're pretty fun to make, and I've made some similar ones with words, bird doodles, and feather doodles repeating too.

and lastly here's all my bird doodle gifts & prizes that I gave in 2020 all in one place (tho I actually made 2 for mell, and only included one)! <3 Ah I'm really proud with how I've improved since starting to do these bird doodles in March :)
Image
maybe in 2020 I should work on drawing something else? bugs doodles? breakfast food doodles? armadillos? just all the birds?

poem 18

Spoiler! :

text:
i don’t believe in reincarnation
because heaven is vast and full;
but i believe i can hear the echoes of my ghosts
like water rippling from long ago.

river-people don’t long for the ocean
our scales never adapted to salt-water and
“if you go to the coast you’ll miss the harvest”
i say, never having planted a field in my life.

there’s still coal dust sitting in your lungs
from four generations back
we could never quite breathe without it.

we have a strange way of saving pictures
of people no one can remember anymore
but memory isn’t always concrete, sometimes it’s
fluid and love isn’t always tangible
and maybe i’ll take better care of preserving who i am
after transcribing all these unreadable inscriptions.

we still owe $14 to the company store in West Virginia
but some inheritance is borrowed debt
to remind you at harvest time
what starving feels like

we’ve lost three homes to house-fires
& yet we’re not afraid to smoke,
it’s never the flame
but the ashes that worry us.

where did those lines weather across your eyes come from,
were there miles they were carved out of?
and how many sleepless nights
did you look for a familiar star
to carry you back home.

i can hear the echoes of my ghosts
like water rippling from long ago.

chickens | May 2021

Image

I made sort of a series of weirdly colored chickens with just like basic markers - since I thought it'd be interesting; I made like half a dozen of these, just kind of seeing what works - here's 3 of them plopped together above. They're cute individually too - but I also like them together.

I made some more chicken art as well - of varied quality - might add more later!

You can expect more chickens in some form later.

Random Lake Photography

~ dollop rain, sprinkle plop-
trickle away the day,
hush water, drip drip drip,
the lake murmurs hello
to no one in particular. ~
