D.E. kind of reminds me of E.T. Maybe it is a sci-fi or fantasy
Under the surface
I never saw a wild thing sorry for itself. A small bird will drop frozen dead from a bough without ever having felt sorry for itself. David Herbert Lawrence
Sounds to me like a journal-entry written obok about a mid-teen girl who thinks her life is terrible. But in the end it's not that bad. I wouldn't pick it up, because it brings to mind a romance.

Hmm...maybe one of those coming of age type books, or maybe something with a girl trying to find Clarke or something. I'm not very good at this, but it is definitely interesting. I would pick it up. ---
Reminds me almost of Narnia... I don't know why. Maybe the whole orphans, mythology? Now I can't get the image out of my head of orphans going through a secret closet to find a magical fantasyland. Sound familiar?

The Day of the Dog
99% of people die when killed. If you are in the 1% who doesn't, put this in your signature.
I must say that doesn't leave much to the imagination. It simply sounds like a story about a fighter in the desert. I should hope there is prehaps more to it?
A self-sustaining set of lies.
"I wish I had a man-eating vine for a houseplant,"
"If I heard ticking coming from somewhere I'd put my head close to the source of the sound too,"
I would definitely pick this book up! It sounds like A Pack of Lies by Anne Fine (she's one of my favourite writers!). If I have time I would read it immediately, but if I don't, I would buy it and take it back home with me.
The Last Photograph
you'll never find another sweet little girl with sequined sea foam eyes ocean lapping voice, smile coy as the brightest quiet span of sky and you're all alone again tonight; not again, not again, not again. and don't it feel alright, and don't it feel so nice? lovely.
Hmm, sounds to me like a book reflecting on someone's shady/terrible past? It reminds me of autumn days and sepia. Probably something that I might read the blurb for.
