______________________________________________________________________________
The year was 2020. After years of scientific turmoil in the reaches of the European Union, a British scientist, Charles Oxford, discovered a new form of life. This form of life was like no other known on Earth: luminescent, both aquatic, aerial, and terrain-sustainable, and held the unique ability to painlessly burrow into the spinal cord and attach to another living being--and that meant humans.
Charles Oxford had discovered the Symbiote.
As most political thrill stories go, it didn't take long before corporate dynamo Dennis "Iron Jaw" Hawes and ambitious political powerhouse, Maxwell Hyatt, invested into Oxford's discovery.
It was dubbed, "The Hawes Project"
After years of testing, breeding, and plotting, both science and society were on the brink of revolution. The tests were conclusive: mutualistic relationships between human minds and symbiotes proved an intelligence and general performance boost of incredible amounts.
The Hawes Symbiote was introduced to the medical market as a performance-enhancing surgery, corrective surgery; it was an instant hit. Cheap, safe, and productive. Society ate it alive.
That was 2025.
In 2030, society had completely reformed through the union of Human and Symbiote. Poverty reached record lows; cities boomed, grew larger, and before long, the world was rearing for Utopia, something earlier thought impossible. Some things, though, never change. Political ambitions raged through nations and unions were formed, broken, and the world was soon completely reformed.
As is typical with society, there are those who oppose the idea of symbiosis. Yes, the improvement is impossible to deny, but who is to say that changing a human's natural function is ethical?
This is where our story begins.
Today is November 5th, 2035, and you are a member of this utopian society. Assumptions and notions will tell you that today will be a normal day for you, but what you don't realize is that an act of resistance--or what will be viewed as a terrorist attack--will destroy a government laboratory by explosion.
The story ensues as it comes naturally. Who are you in this equation? Are you a member of the "Terrorist" organization? Are you a political hopeful who wants to change the world back to human puritanism? Or perhaps a person of power in business, perhaps a member of the SENTRY--the utopian police force.
Whoever you are, your world will turn upside down today.
Setting
The majority of the storybook will take place in and around Nova City, a technologically-advanced metropolis where the heart of Symbiosis beats. This city can be likened to futuristic New York. Public transport is done through the Nova Air system, a sort of subway, only for the sky.
Technology is highly advanced. Holographic projections and verbal commands have replaced computers and keyboards. Cell phones are still used, but most are operated through an earpiece, like a bluetooth. Nova City is a place where the arts have been demolished and replaced with high science, leaving the human expression to die by the wayside as the symbiote rids the mind of creativity to make room for logic and calculations.
The process for implanting a symbiote into a human is quick, relatively painless, and madly popular. It has a 99% success ratio, but that 1% makes all the difference to those who've had defective surgeries.
Note to Surgeons: You will be both wealthy and relatively well-known for working in this field. Are you haunted by the possibility of a botched surgery? Or perhaps the ethical questions are plaguing you.
It's November, and that means it's election season for the Neo Congress. A heated topic right now is the ethical laws regarding symbiosis and The Hawes Project, so politicians are on their toes.
After the bombing of Nova City Labs, the public eye turns to their leaders for reaction. Elections are postponed, and security is tightened throughout the city.
Note for SENTRY: Uniforms for lowest rank are white, and grow darker with rank. White/Light Gray/Dark Gray/Black
As politicians seek pawns for their game of chess and The Resistance prepares to overhaul Hawes' Society, tensions will flare and an entire social structure will buckle.
Note for Politicians: Whoever controls Nova City controls the world.
