Faye I sprinted away from the man, clutching his bag tightly to my chest. He'd come after me immediately after I'd grabbed it and was now running after me and throwing... Knives? That's what it felt like when he hit me with them. Every time, I'd feel the pain of it, trip for a few steps, then keep running, staying just ahead because I was healthier and stronger.
Suddenly there was a gunshot, then a thump. I turned and looked - the man was dead, his head bleeding from the bullet that'd just gone through it.
"You're welcome," said a black kid, stepping out of the shadows.
"Yeahh..." I got ready to run again.
"Don't even think about moving. I've got the gun, haven't I?" He sneered. "Just hand me the bag, 'kay?"
I had no choice. After quickly tossing the bag in his direction I ran behind a building to take cover, so that once he'd found out what was in the bag, he didn't shoot me.
"AGH!!" I heard him yell, then the sound of him running to where I was crouching.
Time to go, I thought, and dashed into the shadows.
Once I got back to camp I showed everyone the food I'd stolen from the bag and they clapped me on the back.
In this world, it was kill or be killed and trick or be tricked.
