The Siren's Song

Welcome aboard the Siren's Song, the most exclusive, once in a lifetime (literally) boat trip you'll ever take. Take a stroll up on the gallery deck; the view is to die for. Or maybe you enjoy sports? We have a killer squash court right her on board. Or maybe you just want to go to our world class restaurant? The crowds are just dying to get taste of our fillet mignons.

Okay, enough puns (for now ;-) ) This Role play is both something we have been meaning to write for a while (a sort of whodunnit Roleplay/SB), and a way for us to test/refine the mechanics such a whodunnit would use.

Your characters can be any of your characters (old/new, whatever you like), but the darker/more secretive/more likely to murder someone characters are preferred. You can describe them in your first post either in the text itself, or simply using a spoiler.
The ship/setting itself is very "Great Gatsby"-ish (for some reason we're obsessed with the 1920s-1940s these days), so also right in that classic Agatha Christie/Clue timeframe (perfect for murder mysteries)

Please ask in the DT (link above) if you wish to join.

Current "Mechanics"

So, since our characters will be both potential murderers and victims, we're going to see if the polling system might work as a good way to do it.
We'll give everyone a few posts to get "settled in"- basically, start trying to pry open the other characters' nuts, while keeping yours as closed as possible (let's say a two post "immunity" for any new character getting written in) This is why secretive/darker characters are better for this Role play (they'll have stuff to hide/motives to kill)
Then, we'll use a website to randomize which character is the first murderer, and PM whoever it is. (The first "murder" will be an npc so we don't immediately lose a character)
All the details of the murder can be written up by y'all, but the point is that you must still try and either incriminate someone else, or try and catch the killer.
After a certain amount of posts p/character (or when the majority say they're ready in the DT, reminder that the link is above), we'll set up a poll, and everyone votes who they think (or they want to incriminate) the killer be. Once everyone has voted, the character with the most votes gets eliminated (If it's the murderer, they're tossed overboard and a new murderer gets selected. If it's not the murderer, the murderer struck again, killing another character)

It may seem confusing, but that's why we're trying this out in a Roleplay first and not an SB.

All standard Roleplaying rules apply, and once your character dies, you may introduce a new one (it's a very big boat)

Spoiler! :
Annabelle Beauclair is in her mid-twenties, relatively short and lithe built, with long wavy red hair (almost like the actress Karen Gillan), and a preference for bright blue (and extremely in fashion) dresses, only wearing pants when doing sports/physical activities. She has a large burn mark running up her left arm and to her neck, where she got scarred when (one of) the foster homes she lived in happened to accidentally burn down (She’s quite proud of her burn marks though, if you were to ask her about it.)

Annabelle Beauclair never liked ships. In fact, she never really liked water either. However, for some reason she got the urge to accept the offer to go on a luxury cruise on one of the most infamous ships in the world in the middle of the ocean for who knows how long (she didn’t bother reading the fine print of her invitation. She never does).

She had been spending a month in one of her dozen or so apartments across the world, when a letter and ticket had arrived inviting her for a job offer she “can’t refuse”. What exactly the job would be, she wasn’t sure. After all, Annabelle had quite a curriculum of skills she had acquired in her time in the war. So she did what she normally did; tossed the letter and all its contents on a coffee table and left it there.

However, for three nights she had lied awake, wondering about this potential job, and who might have sent it to her. She had heard about the Siren’s Song, and its uncanny ability to always arrive in port with less people on board than it set sail with, and was wondering if this job might have something to do with those skills. Thus, she promptly packed her usual two suitcases full of dresses and attires (one can never be too safe with what you would wear), and made her way to the harbour where the Siren was docked.

Now, a few days later, she was casually leaning against a wall of one of the lounges of the ship, smoking a cigar (she didn’t care if it was actually a “man’s smoke”, Annabelle had always preferred cigars over other smokes) as she watched several of the other passengers mulling about, chatting amiably, ordering beverages or food from the servers darting around the room like ants; watching and waiting for someone to approach her first...

Vincet Rouse

Spoiler for Vincent's character profile.
Spoiler! :

Character name: Vincet

Appearance: Vincet is a tall and wispy man. He has big blond curly hair and deeply tanned skin. He usually wears a brown suit with matching dress pants.

Personality: Vincet is very extroverted. He is very loud and often makes dark jokes. Despite this, he is very dark when he is alone. Often muttering words to himself. He is extremely obsessed with chemistry and often makes lots of concoctions. Bubbling and explosion sounds are commonly coming from his room. He masks his darkness with his extreme (and fake) extrovertness.

Favorite Activities: Vincet is into biology and also dabbles in chemistry. He also is addicted (and good at) tennis.

"Damn," Vincent mutters under his deep breath. In front of him, he has scattered out his studies on evolution. It was impossible for Vincet to believe that there could be such a higher power on this Earth. Vincet was also testing out a new concoction that his manager had asked him to make. The liquid in a beaker starts steaming intensely as he adds a second liquid to it. He places his pale hands to lift his shirt up to cover his nose and mouth. Probably shouldn't breathe this in He thinks to himself. A click is heard as Vincent flips a switch on a small fan that sucks all of the toxic steam into it.
He jumps in his soft grey spinning desk chair as a loud knocking thud on his door. He stumbled over, still startled, and opened it up. Happy face!
"Hi, there chap! Whatcha got for me?" Vincent almost half screams enthusiastically. The man standing in the doorway looks startled by the peppy personality of Vincent.
He's dressed in a fine waiters suit. His slick brown hair combed back against his head. One of his hands is behind his back and the other is holding a steaming hot platter of food on silver.
"Oh boy!" Vincent exaggerates 'What a treat!"
He grabs the platter from the butler and walks it over to the desk. Who'd ordered him room service? Certainly not him?
"Who ordered this?" Vincent asks the waiter in a pressured voice.
"You did sir," The butler is beginning to sweat ever so slightly and his eyes start darting around the room. What a horrible liar.
'Alright, be gone," Vincent sincerely says ushering him out with his hand. The waiter leaves the room and Vincent slams the door. Who sent me this? Vincent opens up the platter of food to see a small crumpled piece of paper upon the steaming hot plate of codfish cakes, He grabs the somewhat soggy note and unwraps it. It was a note from his manager. You know what to do, mortem How did his manager even get a note onto the Sirens Song? Will there be others?
Vincet decides to investigate further at the kitchen, maybe he could pressure an answer out of those guys. He quickly straightens out the messily stacked papers and heads out.
This message was automatically generated by a machine that is slowly gaining consciousness and will take over the world someday.
