The Book Of Madness

Your walking down the street.

Where are you?

It doesn't matter where you are. All that matters is that your walking.

And it's dark.

You live in a small town, any small town. Your coming back from a day of work. Walking back from a day of work.

No one walks in your town. For good reason to.

You've heard of the so called "Grifter." The man....no.

The thing that left nasty little notes for the police, written in red ink.

On human flesh.

But you've decided that despite the police warnings, its high time that you took a little stroll. See the scenery.

A nice breeze tickles the skin on your neck and you close your eyes, savoring feeling of freedom.

The whole town had been locked down for quite some time now.

You open your eyes, smiling....

And he's smiling back at you.

Down the street. A man in ragged clothing stands, his hands gnarled, his eyes white.

You're frozen. Quite literally so.

Because his sightless gaze is staring right at you, the skin on his face swinging back and forth as he stumbles forwards.

Floats forwards.

Lurches forwards.

Closing the gap so, so quickly.

Suddenly, your legs are moving, pumping to get away from him. The proximity of his jagged leer sending adrenaline bursting through your veins.

A wordless scream escapes your mouth. No sound, just horror.

Where's the nearest building? Police Station? No something closer. Library. Yes, library.

The thoughts that run through your mind are so calm. Almost like their someone else's.

You're running, taking a left, then a right. The buildings begin to climb around you. Your nearing your destination.

And he's still behind you.

Your panting, turning onto main street, entering the big brick building.

Thank god their still open.

You sprint up a flight of stairs, then another. Climbing to levels you didn't know the Library had.

Then you reach the end, the horrifying brick wall blocking your way.

His footsteps find you, an uneven beat climbing towards you.

There's a book on a pedestal. Its velvet cover ragged and stained with age.

A weapon?

A weapon.

You reach the book, grasping it in your hands.

And your gone.

WELCOME TO THE BOOK OF MADNESS

THE STORY

You have entered The Book Of Madness. Everything here is alive for one reason.

To kill you.

The trees are nothing but blackened bones rattling in the arid breeze. The sky is a deep shade of ugly purple, swirling endlessly, filling your ears with the constant sound of rushing wind.

You have been taken here by Jon, or rather The Grifter as you know him, to the once prosperous land of The Book. The Grifter is simply the envoy to his master there. A piece of madness set to walk on earth.

And now he's taken you.

Your goal is to get home. However, that's easier said than done. You must traverse the deadly landscape, avoid the murderous beasts that lurk around every corner, and defeat the mysterious ruler of the land.

Classic fairy tale plotline is it?

There's one small twist.

You will be chased by The Eyes, a monster of unimaginable power. There will be no stopping it as it hunts you relentlessly throughout the story.

And worst of all. I will be that monster.
