You just give us info about you character. What kind of family was she born in, does/did she have any siblings, was her childhood a happy one, is there something in her past she regrets/hates/doesn't remember, what was it that got her into writing, is there something from her past that she holds especially dear (like a medallion, a picture, perhaps some object that once belonged to her grandmother or someone..) and stuff like that ^^ If you write this much, I'm sure it will be more than enough.

Hey, sunwater, sorry I didn't see your question before. I didn't get the notification for some reason...
As far as the Quills go, you can work with his father. The only reason why I don't think you can be *the* Quill is because the school was created to have the students write about the things that he'll read out. This would be the principal/headmaster doing this, so he would have to be much older than 17. However, you can make it where your character is the brains behind the operation and he is the one who reads out the beasts and that the principal/headmaster is more of a figurehead.

Daddy Long Legs are more closely related to crabs than spiders and somehow the idea of crablike creatures with spider legs that have escaped the entrappings of the primordial sea and now crawl over land and can walk up and down walls and ceilings creeps me more than I can adequately describe. — Snoink
