Now, to answer anyone's question: what's the difference between camp and basic training?

Camp is simply to introduce you to what military life would be like. Yes, you do follow the same rules, go through the same training, and live by the same protocols (such as salute an officer and when they play the anthem, taps, and others), but it's no where near as strict. Camp is supposed to be easier - since ninety-nine percent of the attendees aren't in that much shape or have never seen the military in action - and fun. The only time you could really get in trouble (hint, yelled at) is if you're caught doing something completely inappropriate: fighting, adultery, drugs, or disrespecting your fellows and instructors.

Okay, I have some generic questions about the place, but I might as well ask them here so everyone's on the same page.

What time of year is it? I'm guessing summer, but you never know

Where is it? I'm assuming CONUS, but I could be wrong.

What is the weather like there?

What is the size of the camp? 100 kids? 300?

Is there any potential lethal danger to our cadets? ... of course, I guess that's up to us to decide.

Maybe you could give us a link to the website of the camp where you went and we could place our story there?

Anyway, this seems like a really fun story.

Okay, this is during the early part of June. You were correct on summer.

I'm using Ft. McKellan, in Alabama, as the model. I know my way around it better than anything else. You could probably find it on a google or yahoo search.

It's sunny, it's hot, your character's going to need a lot of water! Don't worry, it will rain on Wednesday and Friday.

Try about 500 to 600 kids.

The only real danger to everyone is going to be at the obstacle courses. There are a few that are not very safe, considering you are climbing something with no aids, just yourself and your teammates.

Okay, I will be posting updates too.

After I get everyone pretty-much in the same location, there will be a very long post from me. It will have all of the camp's rules and regulations, summarized plans, so on and so forth.

Well, after dinner, everyone needs to finish unpacking and getting settled into their barracks. Once that's done, I'll have Neils talk to the boys while Adri talks to the girls further.

Okay, but I'm not posting right now. My stomach hurts. =) I'm doing the best I can else where.

I think people forgot about this. Also I had a simple question. Once we do get this thing rolling, exactly how will we prociede. Could you maybe make a scheduele or something. It would help at least me, thanks.

Okay, then....here's the basic schedule, if this will help.

Day 1: Sunday

Check in - already done
Formation - already done
Go to dinner, make friends, finish settling in - in progress

Day 2: Monday

Formation for assignment
Get your uniforms (camoflauge)
Go to the Obstacle Courses (which will include low wire, the tower, the beams, balance beams, and rope climbing)
Get lunch in the field: eat MREs
Go back to the base and have fun

Day 3: Tuesday

Formation for assignment
Go to the wilderness training sections
Climb the rock wall
Get lunch (MREs again)
Get held inside the building thanks to rain
Go to map-reading course
Get through the woods (using a map and compass)
Go back to the base and have fun

Day 4: Wednesday

Formation for assignment
Go to the Leadership Reaction Courses (more Obstacle courses, this time, including a pool to cross over!)
Get lunch (at the Base)
Get some time off to have fun at the base
Go to the Drown Proof class (at the pool)
Have a pool party until sundown
Rain prevents fun in the evening

Day 5: Thursday

Formation for assignment
Go to the Rope-Ladder section
Have some time off to relax in the shade and talk (not returning to the base)
Go to the Rappel Tower
Rappel
Go back to the base for lunch
Get the rest of the day off

Day 6: Friday

Formation for Physical Fitness Test
Get some time off to have fun at the base
Awards Ceremony
Get held inside barracks due to heavy rain
Go to the dance at sundown
Have some free time
Pack up and say goodbyes

Day 7: Saturday

Say more goodbyes
Go home
