Do I need to have seen the anime that I'm assuming this is based on? Cause I haven't gotten around to it, but this looks too interesting to pass up.

No need to see the anime or read the manga at all! Anything not explained in the main post will be explained as the story progresses and if you have any questions feel free to ask about them. This story follows a period between the two main series and will not involve any major characters from the original story.
