Hi!
I love your idea! It looks like a blast, however I did have one question. Tolkien mostly wrote males into his main adventures so I was just checking to see if you were ok with having a female character, or if you kind of wanted to maintain an idea of his writing style and keep it with male characters.
Thanks :)

Not a problem at all!

I know I set it up kinda heavily, but we'll keep it all fairly loose. It's all about writing some fun stories together. ;)

I'm interested in joining this (my first storybook!) but I was wondering why you chose to omit the "evil" races from the playable character list? I think it would be mighty interesting to have an orc as a character.

Obviously, though, your rules. I was just wondering why.

I suppose that I would enjoy lending my hand upon this epic journey. May I?

A general question, how many characters are there going to be? Is there a limit? Just wondering.
The hardest part of writing science fiction is knowing actual science. The same applies for me and realistic fiction.

@Morrigan, I did include somewhat of 'evil' characters, with the men of Harad pretty much siding with Sauron and all. But yeah, they're not evil per se. The reason I didn't include orcs is that they're generally pretty dumb.

But hey, you wanna create a smarter orc and put him through some adventures, go for it.

I'm hoping to get as many people in on this as possible. You can also create several characters if you want. How does two or three sound?

Another quick question, are we a fellowship, or are we doing it on our own? Like each person has their own path and storyline? And if that is the case can we create alliances?

You pretty much create a character and send it off from where it begins its journey. You can choose to make your own little 'fellowship' or group around this character, with some npc's you control.

Or, even better, you can team up with the other storybookers to create a group. It'll be fun to see whether a lot of people want to do the same thing in the SB, and team up for it.

For any quest, that is, the main one or the optional ones.

Sorry for asking another question so quickly after the first--

In the third age, only the Hobbits really had surnames, so should I put "daughter of so-and-so" if the character hasn't done anything cool enough to warrant a title yet?

That sounds good, Morrigan.

Maybe locations and professions also come into play with names. Say, 'Morrigan the Chef' for example. ;)

@Birkhoff, you don't know how long I've been waiting for a SB like this!! *is freaking out*
Just a quick question- I see you didn't add the five Istari (Gandalf, Saruman, Radagast, Alatar and Palando), or the Easterlings or the Nameless creatures. Can I assume that they are going to be part of this SB? If they are, might I reserve a Easterling (they're Humans, btw)

If not, I shall reserve a Dwarf from the Blue Mountains.

Spoiler! :
Also, if the Easterlings and Nameless Creatures are included, might I suggest that we add the East of Middle-Earth to the adventure. There are some pretty interesting tales which are associated with the East, including the Father of the Balrogs, and several other of Mirgoth's lieutenants (equally strong to Sauron), all residing in the East, and the two Cair Itthryn (Blue Wizards) fighting and counseling to protect it...

@TheWanderingWizard, awesome to have you onboard. :3

I don't really want any really powerful creatures and characters in this, nor that many known ones, save for a few (mainly those mentioned in the opening post). So no five wizards.

Faceless creatures, same deal. They are really old and powerful.

Easterlings! They were in my draft. I dropped they because they seemed pretty uninteresting, and I doubted anyone would draw one. But please, go ahead!

And finally; dwarves of the Blue Mountains, forgot them. If anyone wants that, go for it. ;)

As for the east in general, I'd like to avoid it. We're veering into territory even I'm not that familiar with, so I don't think it would be too interesting, or easy for that matter, for other non-hardcore fans.
