-_-

Yes, Wanderer, I know exactly what your inspiration for this SB was.

Oh, alright. One of my storybooks has already expired, and since two more are likely to follow, I suppose no harm will be done if I join another.

Let me see... I want to be... an adventurer!

@TheWanderingWizard, I have done some studying as to the general success of storybooks. Here is what I discovered:

In the Storybook Archive, there are 2250 (45x50) storybooks (Double Trouble Writing Huddles included). The amount of storybooks which had a succesful conclusion - meaning it was planned and the storybook did not end prematurely - total at around 47. That is about 2,1% of the total amount of storybooks in the archive.

So, why do so few storybooks actually succeed? Well, sometimes the storybook itself is to blame, either because the setting/plot is not that popular, or because not enough thought went into the creation of the storybook; however, the most common cause of a storybook's expiration is a lack of dedication from the participants.

I therefore suggest that we be really strict about who we shall allow to join this storybook - you, @r4p17, @Aurora99, @TakeThatYouFiend and I have proven ourselves to be dedicated storybookers (High Fantasy is a perfect example), but we do not know how dedicated other participants might be (though I can vouch for @Wolfie36).

Another thing you might want to do is significantly reduce the amount of spots you have available. If there is one thing my hours of navigating the Archive has taught me, it's that too many participants spoil the storybook, especially since the storybook's survival then depends on more people. A trusted few participants would work much better.

Finally, if we do allow someone whose dedication is disputable, to join, we should not hesitate to remove their privilege of participating if they are not active for a prolonged period of time, thereby halting progress. If we want to keep their character, I am sure we can assign said character to someone else.

I agree. I like the little group that we have right now. @methrirr123 is also a good SBer, though he is pretty busy at some times.

@TheWanderingWizard, I will start to work on my profile today. It should be done within the next 2-3 days.

I hope you don't mind, but I took the liberty of creating the "Legend of the Devil's Diamond". Here it is:

Legend has it that long ago, some miners found a diamond that resonated with otherworldly energies, though of course, they did not realise it, for they were too enchanted by the stone’s scarlet lustre. They then sold the stone to the delighted governor of Century City, who invited all the world to behold his most precious jewel.

For months, visitors flocked from far and wide to view this fantastic stone, but the diamond drew the attention of Century City’s feral neighbours as well. The Callitrix claimed that the stone was rightfully theirs and demanded that it be relinquished, but they were ridiculed and refused. Furious, they swore retribution and disappeared into the forest once more.

Several more months passed, and eventually, people forgot about the Callitrix and their demands. One day, when the encounter was naught but a faded memory, the Callitrix attacked, stealing the diamond and razing much of the city. An incensed governor recruited a sizeable force and marched on Calliptra.

In response, the leader of the Callitrix sent an escort of a hundred veterans to take the diamond and hide it deep in the forest, hoping to draw away the governor’s forces, lest Calliptra suffer the same fate as Century City. The governor’s scouts uncovered this plan though, so he set an ambush. Despite the Callitric skill at navigating the forest, the escort walked right into the ambush. Nevertheless, it consisted of veterans for a reason, and they extended what would have been a short skirmish into a long and bloody battle. However, they were outnumbered, and eventually all but one fell.

This lone Callitrix fled deeper into the forest with the diamond, and though his pursuers were tenacious, he evaded them. Unfortunately, he was mortally wounded, and the location of the stone was lost with him. The governor and his troops spent weeks searching for the diamond, but to no avail. Utterly disappointed, he returned to Century City and rebuilt it.

The legend continues that the governor, embittered, dubbed the stone the “Devil’s Diamond”, due to the misfortune it had caused, but what happened after that varies from tale to tale. Some say that the Callitrix recovered it, whereas others claim that the stone is lost to this very day. Why the Callitrix had desired it so, nobody knows, though the most popular belief is that it could allow them to summon and control a powerful demon. Whether this belief rose from the diamond’s name, no one is certain, but one thing is resoundingly clear: many have searched for the diamond, and all have failed.

Perhaps it is for the best. Perhaps some things should remain hidden forever…

PS: "Callitrix" is my name for the Monkey Falls civilisation. (It stays the same in plural and singular.)

Spoiler! :
If anybody has an objection, please, inform me. Also, if you think this legend is "cheesy" or "typical", that was the idea! :D
