Spoiler! :
Heya @Spearmint! Since you left so many lovely comments on my wall, I thought I'd repay your kindness <3 All of your poems are so fun to read and your voice really captures the little moments well, especially in "doubts" and "gravity". Also your line "maybe gravity / is what keeps me / from fa[i](l)ling" is such a good description of why some people never put themselves out there, and I love how contradictory it is to say "gravity keeps me from falling" and yet the analogy still holds true ^-^
Your most recent poem, "looking up", really struck me for it's imagery. I could totally see myself looking at muddy footsteps on the ground compared to the "poets in the clouds", and I loved how you painted the picture of "they alternate between / staring into space and / scribbling madly on / perfectly crinkled paper". I feel like it also marks the way some poets can become so absorbed in poetry that they loose touch with reality, and they can no longer communicate with people regularly.
Also "words are more like / that sticky crust of ketchup / around the bottle’s rim" yes!!! And I agree, titles would fit better at the ends of poems ;))

Ahh thank you so so much for your lovely comment, quitecontrary!!! This completely made my day, like honestly I've been feeling a bit tired and unmotivated lately, but this brought such a smile to my face, so consider me now encouraged!! <3 :DDD And I'm so glad you pointed out those lines; they're my favorites too!! (Especially the gravity one; I love contradictions and wordplay ^-^) I really enjoyed reading your thoughts on my poems so far, and seriously, thank you times a million for this beautiful comment <33333

? !

question marks
oh, i'm so tired of question marks.
why do i have to be
so uncertain all the time?
why do i keep doubting myself,
putting myself down so
others feel better?

why do i keep
asking why?
*sigh*

all right, here's what i'm going to do
i'm gonna straighten out that question mark
get rid of its hunchback curve
correct its posture and
turn it into an exclamation mark instead
see, much better!

question mark,
you'll thank me for this someday
!

the boot

got so much on my mind
mountains of homework
with no end in sight
take out the trash
clean + set the table
fold the laundry--
so so much to do!
i can't ever catch a break,
i'm being buried under to-do lists
gasping for breath in this sea of productivity
and i think i'm drowning in all my responsibilities
it's like a giant boot coming down from the sky
to crush me like a bothersome, insignificant fly

evening drives

gazing out the window
watching neon lights streak by
headlights flashing on the street
a rolling-stone kind of peace

comfortable murmurs in the front seats
i release a contented sigh
no worries on this saturday night
at least for now, this timeless flight
gives me space of mind to write

Spearmint, Alice here!

I see you are doing a wonderful job, much better than me, ofcoarse!
I really like the poem- the boot. It is so so so relatable.

The poem- evening drives, is so well written.
These lines are my favorite

no worries on this saturday night
at least for now, this timeless flight
gives me space of mind to write

It rhymes perfectly.

Best of luck for the rest of the month. You are doing an amazing job.
Imagination is a superpower. Use it well!

Aww thank you so much, @ImaginativeAlice!! I'm glad you enjoyed my poems! ^-^ I just checked some of yours out, and they're awesome too!! I especially liked "Alice's Wonderland" because it was so descriptive, and I could really imagine the narrator riding on a unicorn and jumping on clouds (which sounds super fun :D) Also, the gifs you added to each poem are perfect!! Best of luck to you too!! <333

actually missed napo yesterday, oops ^^'

word
sword
i read that in a book once
'word' plus an 's' in front becomes 'sword'
and somehow that fits
(s)words scrape my thin skin
and i bleed paper waterfalls
the tears my eyes can't cry

sticks and stones may break my bones
but no one ever warned me about words

Spoiler! :
last two lines from the song "Mean Girls" by Leanna Crawford

smile

smile
when it's all you can do
cuz you've still got
miles
to go before you can stop feeling like
slime
in the gutters of a city like
limes
being squeezed between your clenched-teeth
smile

candy wrapper

a piece of crinkled paper.
it used to hold a sweet, but it holds one no longer.
what will this wrinkled rectangle do
now that its purpose is over?
is it destined for the trash-- or the recycling perhaps--
or to be crumpled and forgotten in sidewalk cracks?
oho, but no, because as you see
this wrapper still has lots of things it can be.
an origami plane, a bird,
a paper flower for a paper bee.
it has many purposes, just like you and me.

dear mr. orange

purple sticker eyes and
orange peel cap.
like a brightly colored snowman
sitting on the table.
oh mr. orange
you bring me such joy :')

lazy

can we still fly
with tissue-paper wings?
i watch the air slip through me like
water through a loosely-woven net
and maybe i'll just let the current take me
it's far easier to go with the flow
than muster up a spark of motivation
and fan the flames of inspiration
oh, no, today is a lazy day c:

:|

i'm reluctant to rant
to share my feelings with others
i don't want to drag them down with
heavy uncensored thoughts.
when someone asks how i'm doing
i'll always say good or fine
rather than admit that
things aren't perfect after all.
i'll be okay, i know i will
so why make others feel worse?
but... maybe this tight-lipped mask of happiness
is a kind of lie that's left untold
and telling stories is the only way
to break free from its choking hold.

The bigger the issue, the smaller you write. Remember that. You don’t write about the horrors of war. No. You write about a kid’s burnt socks lying on the road. You pick the smallest manageable part of the big thing, and you work off the resonance.
