Day 15 - halfway point

I feel like I’m in a limbo of sorts,
somewhere in between being able to breathe
and feeling like I’m drowning.

Always okay,
but never the best.
Never the worst,
but always coming up short.

Stuck between wanting to stay quiet
and feeling like the world needs to know
how loud I can scream.

Spoiler! :
Why do I see so much of what I'm feeling in this poem? Especially the last stanza! Your poems are really relatable, keep it up! Also, your "Day 14 - reasons why you should date a poet" is really unique. Even though I can't really relate because I'm not that "flowery" in verbal discourse, I love it! (poetry is a very cute way to court a person, at least for me)
If you want some sweet reviews to your poems, short stories, and essays, come by Katteelogue.

Have a lovely day❤️

Day 16 - a wandering mind

The lights flickering remind me of my attention span.
There one second,
gone the next.

I wish somebody would replace that old bulb,
God knows it’s gonna go out eventually.

One minute I’m thinking about how to write my dissertation,
the next I’m staring outside my window,
wondering if mother spiders worry about their young
just as we do our own.

Hurry up and just kill the wretched thing,
God knows it’s not doing us any good being inside.

Spoiler! :
@Katteex Thank you so much! I like writing poems that other people can relate to so that means a lot to me :)

Spoiler! :
I've fallen behind on commenting on your poems, but I really love the last two ones! They're especially relatable to how I've been feeling these past few days.

I especially love the symbolism of the lights and your mind in the last post. It's a really cool way to approach how you're feeling.

Day 17 - my parents are not two lovebirds

“how did you and dad meet?”
i’d ask my mom,
my young and growing mind seeking answers to questions
that would in the end only temporarily satisfy me.

she’d sigh like she always did
whenever i asked her questions like that,
questions about my dad,
and give a less than enthusiastic response.

coming from a house where a lack of love
was always on show, never wavering,
it made me think about how i’d like to rise above
and meet the one person whose love would be worth savoring.

Spoiler! :
Written last minute after a long day of homework and an unreliable wifi connection! I’m also starting to struggle with some inspiration but I’m trying to push through until the end of April!

@Jaybird Don’t worry about it, I’ve been falling behind on commenting as well, so I hope to be able to catch up tomorrow! Also, thank you so much! The last poem definitely isn’t my favorite so it’s nice to get some positive feedback on it :) In other news, I’m wondering if it would be okay if I were to publish a poem in my thread that was inspired by one of your poems? I think I’m going to try that challenge since I’m starting to run low on inspiration unfortunately.

Spoiler! :
That would definitely be okay! I've actually been meaning to the same with yours, but I keep forgetting about the challenge when I sit down to write the poem. :P

Maybe today's poem will be inspired by one of yours! :)

Speaking of your poems, I really love your latest. The title prepared me for the content of the poem, but it was worded in such a unique way that I was still excited about what you would write. I also really love how you stuck to four lines per stanza. It's the perfect length.

Day 18 - afternoon rainstorms

Today the clouds were heavy and a dark gray,
a seemingly immovable force against you,
normally an unstoppable object.

How wonderful, you thought, it would be to get away
and disappear for a little bit, out of the blue,
and find somewhere else where you feel you can connect.

Today the clouds were a heavy and dark gray -
what a wonderful way to spend your 20th birthday.

Spoiler! :
Today's poem drew some inspiration from my NaPo buddy @Jaybird's lovely poem apathy, as well as my own thoughts on the weather outside today.

@Jaybird Thank you so much for your comment, I had a tough time trying to title the poem so I'm glad you liked it! Also, sticking to the four lines per stanza is something I like to try doing sometimes and I'm glad it worked out with this last one.

Spoiler! :
Afternoon rainstorms is and might forever be my favorite poem from you because it's hits straight to my heart -- I can't. Stanza #2 is literally you putting what I feel, ever since this quarantine started, into words. Thank you for your poems so much :)

Spoiler! :
Your poems have so much emotions in it. I really like it and they all flow so smoothly and noiselessly. Its such a calming feeling. I really enjoyed self isolation, thoughts on life and healing injuries, painkillers and poems and halfway poi.t. Keep it Up!

Day 19 - freckled skin and chocolate chips

You counted the cracks in my heart just like freckles on my skin;
some were bigger than others,
others existed that I didn’t even know were there.

They didn’t make me any less worthy of love,
you’d always say;
just because the sun’s rays can make the flower’s colors fade
doesn’t make it any less beautiful.

I would count the specks of gold in your eyes just like the hairs on your head;
sometimes I would persist in staying focused,
other times I’d simply be too mesmerized.

They make you that much more wonderful to love,
I’d always say,
just like the way my mom would throw in extra chocolate chips
to make the cookies taste so much sweeter.

Spoiler! :
@Katteex Thank you! I really appreciate your comment :) I've noticed that my feelings during the quarantine keep changing - some days I'll feel more down and the emotions in that poem are more relatable, but other times I'm in a pretty good mood and feel ready to conquer the day. I think a lot of it depends on the weather haha.

@Awru Thank you so much! I'm glad you like them, comments like these make my day and make me want to keep going so I appreciate it :)

Spoiler! :
It's really cool seeing how my poem inspired afternoon rainstorms - I can see where the inspiration came from, but I can also see your own spin on it.

Also, your last poem is really cute. <3

Day 20 - nonverbal gestures

Our love was simple.

It looked like the elderly woman at our sacred bus stop
quickly fixing her husband’s tie before work
and it looked like the thank you note with a smile
left by a patron to a waitress at our secret diner.

Our love was candid,
and we never took it for granted.

Spoiler! :
@Jaybird I'm glad you liked afternoon rainstorms! Reading your poetry was definitely a great way to get some inspiration :) Also thank you, the last one is one of my favorites because of how cute it is haha.

Day 21 - my childhood home

These walls never felt so thin and claustrophobic,
they never used to be like that.

These sheets once felt like home, but now are a stranger
and they’ve removed their welcome mat.

These shelves used to be full of books and trophies,
but now are the dust bunnies’ habitat.

Spoiler! :
Inspired by @Arcticus' theme published in "Napo Prompts" by alliyah in the recent Squills Newsletter

Edit on 4/22 - I just noticed an extra "now" in the last line of my poem so I had to delete it because it was bothering me, yikes haha.

@Magebird Lately I've been wanting to write a lot of more "upbeat"/cute poetry, so I guess that was reflected in the past couple of poems :) Thank you so much!

Day 22 - earth day

The first time I saw the ocean was when I was eight,
a memory I’d like to forever commemorate.

I remember tasting the saltiness in the air
and feeling sharp treasures from the water poke my feet
while I ran on the sand along the shore.
I remember seeing the waves crash and later recede
and hearing all of the seagulls cry mid-flight for some fries.

The last time I saw the ocean was when I was eight,
and my desire to return ceases to dissipate.
