Spoiler! :
Coffee With a Touch of Cream

Friday, April 10, 2020
5:31 PM

Whether it's cream or creamer.
Half and half or sweetly flavored.
Some care for vanilla. Others prefer to have hazelnut soaked syrup mixed with their artificial milk.

No matter the form - it brings joy to the pourer of the white substance.

Spoiler! :
Irish Breakfast Tea

Saturday, April 11, 2020
2:42 PM

A caffeinated beverage with mixed emotions.
There's the happy memories of drinking tea while at work, handing another disposable waxed cup to a coworker. It's enough to out- weigh the bad memory of the shouts of what they could and could not have. Saying children can't have caffeine but caffeine was what they needed to calm down. And now that they can have it they can finally calm down. With a sip of Irish Breakfast Tea from a disposable card- board cup in the early hours. Looking out on an empty roadway below a blessed horizon.

Spoiler! :
Iced Tea and Lemonade

Sunday, April 12, 2020
2:45 PM

Arnold Palmer.

That's the easy way to state this blend.

Something to drink when you're around people who expect you to drink but you don't care to be doing so. It's hard to keep sobriety - drinking only club soda with lime and iced tea with lemon- ade in place of the temptations on a bar room shelf.

Spoiler! :
Assorted Sugar Wafers with Tea

Monday, April 13, 2020
11:54 AM

It's something that they realize most people might not appreciate.
The type of cookie that's found in grandma's cupboard of old Southern candy and probably stale cookies. Pulling out that shelf, however, reveals the image of the hidden whiskey bottle and the hidden gin. The things that the grandchildren are not supposed to find - along with the hidden weapons, that are unfortunately loaded.
Every step in the old farmhouse is a reminder of what they are and what they might need to go back to once city life started to dull their mind. Most people want to flock to the city to get a new life but any- one born in the hills has the desire to go back to them one day.

Don't Shame Bisquick Users

Tuesday, April 14, 2020
5:32 PM

It's a simple concept - don't shame bisquick users.
Some of us don't have the same amount of spoons as others.
It's okay to take shortcuts to find what works for you.
You can be a foodie and also be a spoonie, experimenting with new foods that become regular recipes or big things for big occasions.
Don't shame bisquick users.

Spoiler! :

Ozark Corn Bread Casserole

Wednesday, April 15, 2020
11:07 AM

There's certain things about cutting into a casserole that spreads the smiles across the dinner table. For this dish, it starts with the green peppers and the onions, and far too much butter. (Southern Cooking)
Three boxes of Jiffy, frozen corn shucked straight from the cob, and a few cans of creamed corn later - it's a full pot and ready to be poured into a particular pan.
It's Ozark Corn Bread Casserole.

The inspo for this poem.

Spoiler! :
Stuffed Peppers

Thursday, April 16, 2020
11:23 AM

It starts with four ingredients:
Bell peppers.
Stewed tomatoes.
Beans and rice.
And then it rambles on to the point where the cook can add whatever they prefer to the big ole mix:
Ground meat or tofu.
Carrots or zucchini.
Or other types of squash.
And then they have to choose a type of cheese:
American - fake or real.
Colby jack or pepper jack.
Provolone or swiss.
Or many many more.

Spoiler! :
Zucchini Boats

Friday, April 17, 2020
3:29 PM

It's a similar mode of transportation to stuffed peppers.
The same ingredients are pushed into the shell of another carved out vegetable - rice, beans, tomatoes, corn, etc. These aren't the kind of water craft that are made to be sea worthy but they are called boats all the same.

Spoiler! :
Steamed Clams

Saturday, April 18, 2020
10:01 AM

This is one such particular memory that hooks into another and another and another one. Going down the lonesome roadway to find an equally lonesome roadhouse where a party of four sits to remember the man that always picked up and steamed clams for the "special" one among them.
Steamed clams have a certain allure over such things as clam strips. And oysters and clams are cited as being a renewable hope for the future. But for the "special" one in the party - they're a memory of every -thing that they've lost. Including clams from Redners.

@BluesClues I have to admit that I have been lazy most days but the wild rice comment was to be edgy. As edgy as I can be as a modern artist talking about food porn.

Spoiler! :
Ham and Multiple Beans Soup

Monday, April 20, 2020
3:00 PM

They have very few food aversions but this is one of them.
The making of broth is something that has always made them sick. It doesn't matter that they've hunted and fished and slaughtered the beasts - it's just the smell and the look and everything else about the situation…
It's so hard to stand by the stove and make ham and multiple beans soup for all of these reasons, but also because they have to make it in place of the man of the house being gone.
