Hoooo boy let's see how this goes this year. new drinking game: take a shot (of WATER) every time Sachi uses too much religious imagery or mentions cathedrals

here we are again, the cusp of something bowing at the edge of the earth. can you hear the crows? they are singing a song of warning; the heart beating in your chest is no longer a possession you can claim. (blood is not a war cry, and i read it in the stars that the troops are coming home. light a candle for every card i find--the fool is only a fool if he keeps his eyes on the ground.)

i woke up in the dark between the silence and your body, pressed into cracks from an earthquake due next week. my throat is dry from swallowing stars we passed from hand to hand. there is something comforting about the word sin, heretic, blasphemy (creatures of carnality rising up from the ground, tasting like something divine for which i have no name. can you teach me how you survive on naked flesh?)
here lies in my hands a map. X marks every spot except the one i need. my bones know the road better than i do. my gps has left to go home. (turn left at the first opportunity. they will not find you there.)

is this working? quiet now; in the dark is the scheming, glass cold against my mouth in a method best described as 'personal catastrophe, simmered', dripping into my mason jar heart. is this working? is this working still? I have run out of mathematical equations to guestimate how often to refill. is this working? (quiet now; in the dark is the drowning.) (is this working?) (quiet now. hush. in the dark comes the blooming. the triumvirate unleashed)
(i am become myself, the creator of all my own grace)
(
is this working? is this working? is this wo

open your hands, love. i will show you how i met the wolves when you weren't home. their mouths are made of lace and stone and i have taught them to drink from my bones. can't you hear us in the night? it is the sound of my profane heart howling. (we will wait up for each other to come back, to wipe our paws on white sheets, and curl up inside closed palms.)
it is so hard to unlearn being a wild thing, once you know how much easier it is to breathe.

tonight i am crawling backwards into myself. leave me here in the unmaking of my own divinity. i will come back when i can feel life humming against my thumbs.

I don't think you could ever have too much religious imagery, it's always pretty when you write it. I love the wolves with the mouths of lace and stone. And the unmaking of divinity and the feeling of life humming, it's so good!
in this house i have made, there are only hallways that lead to you. i have turned your bones into a museum, a testament to the living breathing miracle that was your downfall.
precious thing; in this house there is only me--a house held shrine un-bowing and luxuriant. lay your cheek upon my wooden floors and feel the years i have shed there. (the heating is always set to sixty-five, and the windows on the second floor won't open past an inch. the kitchen table is ringed with saturn. find me here at three AM, spreading tarot cards for my girlhood self: in this i am my own god.)
in this house i have made, i will teach the dawn to break as easily as you did.

i have spoken with the road and have been informed this is where we all end up in the end. living in castles made of nowhere, reigning rooms empty of everything except yesterday's saints. mea culpa, they tell me, is no longer in vogue; these days only revelry will cure your sins. carve yourself a shrine and be witness to your first communion. (it will taste like smoke but go down like honey. your name is the loveliest thing in the room, and to it i would pray a thousand tiny deaths and succumb to a thousand bloody tithes. (i should have listened to michael when he warned me i would find friends in low and holy places. the lowest place i have been is between your thighs. the holiest place is the wide-as-breath spaces between your hand on my throat, and my skin burning away. i am a cathedral. i am yours. destroy me with my name and bury me in saturn's rings.)

in the midst of these dark unopened hours i have more depths than cathedrals. whisper to my fingertips everything you should have told your mother on the first day of school (I am more than shapes and consequences. i am a heart, beating, blindly against myself).
open my ribs and carve on them the hymns you learned on your knees, calling out to something holy and not meant for you (isn't that what you felt every time you set foot on hallowed earth? usurper, deceiver. these pews will cut you down).
the question never is 'do you believe in god?' but 'does god believe in you'?

at the bottom of these dark and broken hours i have learned my own true name and the way it does not fit in your palms. absolve me, mother, for i know all that i have done, and sometimes the only way to free something is to destroy it.

Hey if I have to do shots of water every time you use religious imagery, at least I'll be nicely hydrated by the end of the month
Seriously, though, I am enjoying these, as ever. A couple of my favourite snippets:
open my ribs and carve on them the hymns you learned on your knees, calling out to something holy and not meant for you [...]
[...] i will come back when i can feel life humming against my thumbs.
(Also from this poem "crawling backwards into myself" is a weirdly relatable feeling.)
