21. echinopsis spachiana

cacti are fascinating plants,
of how they persevere against
curious birds pecking holes in
their thorny structures, harsh
to the touch, but welcoming to
a rare droplet of liquid over
their parched, spiked brow.

you're known as a golden torch,
of sorts, i suppose, i would think
for your bright, lightened wings
that seem to lift off as white clouds,
right past my fingertips that i can
nearly stroke the soft, fluff pieces,
but they like to scatter in the wind.

22. mammillaria beneckei

round, sweet prickly shape,
you've got a bud for one arm,
then another small, identical
head as a second limb.

cute little leaves are stuck
within your thin pricks, giving
a nice flicker of brown-red in
fall terms as a nice decoration.

23. abelmoschus ficulneus

perchance a short time will come
to admire what you've become,
past the dark green growth
where the farmers do troth

'ey declare you a nuisance,
a "keep out ye' beast" yet
you're yearn'n' fer sumthin'
to let ye peek yer tiny li'l
petaled stems thro' the dirt.

24. hibiscus rosa-sinensis

there's a many - bloomed plant
that rests in my backyard,
bulbs that are spreading wide,

a smattering of slightly darker
than grapefruit blossoms that
seemed sweet as could be.

even if it seems that the flowers
should all wither away now,
somehow they're still breathing.

25. modiola caroliniana

your name tastes bittersweet
even by reading silently in my head,
but it's not your fault that i'm two
shades from burning up inside.

you're a firey, freshly pressed
copper plate color, nice and bright
and slightly pink infused shade,
sprouting from full plain green stubs.

one more look and stroke over
your skinny stems to say farewell.

26. alcea rosea

deep, beet-rooted dye
of a dark shade, pressed
closer than most flowers,

i think you'd stain my skin
if i tap your flushed center,
or something would leak out.

do i mind blood-red dots
lining my arms and legs,
or should i leave them be?

27. silene nutans

little poofs of white pressed
fabric sprouting from brown,
worn stems that stand tall
against any bearing wind.

you look so fragile i fear
you might split into pieces,
chunks of light bits thrown
about on the dark dirt.

but you hold together,
shedding only a bit,
fragmentation an illusion.

28. cerastium arcticum

it's a bit cute that your little
petals have a natural kind
of link, double-leafed.

tiny bushels of cloud-colored
fluff on a bright cheery day,
that wave hello as i stoop
down to water their patch.

29. lychnis flos-cuculi

they're a soft pastel peach-colored
bush of a mini moss, plush tiny stems.

some may call them raggedy, a bit
straggly since they grow over the dirt.

i instead view them as a lovely plant
that covers the muddy ground.

may they spread and sprout more
blooms than they ever had before.

30. dianthus freynii

the last plant to pass by,
stroking at his pale purple-
blue blooms, crawling ever-so
across the dirt ground.

i can say goodbye, in hushed
tones or fallen petals, or watered
beds, but i will forever miss
this slice of a home garden.

Congratulations on completing NaPo @fraey! And Congrats to sticking to a theme the whole way through while keeping it interesting! :D

Poem 30 seems like a really fitting end. I've enjoyed reading your thread!
you should know i am a time traveler &
there is no season as achingly temporary as now
but i have promised to return

Thanks so much @alliyah! I admit, I was definitely losing track of the daily poems the last few days, but it’s been really fun XD

And you did it! Congrats fraey!

Let me just say that using photos of flowers as the theme of your NaPo was pretty clever and creative, and you did it justice!
