Calla frowned as she looked at the men standing in the front of their cottage.

Lilly, what’s going on? Dario demanded in her head.

I don’t know, but I don’t like the looks of them. Stay hidden, please! She begged of her dragon. She walked out to where her parents were standing behind her father.

“What’s going on?” She asked looking at her parents and then back at the men.

“Where is your dragon?” The taller of the men asked.

“Excuse me?” Her dad demanded. He knew about Dario but he wasn’t about to say anything about Dario so that someone didn’t try and take him.

“We know it’s here, don’t make us flush it out.” The shorter man said, neither of them were hostile but she didn’t trust them. Everyone knew Dragons were for nobles and people with money. The poor didn’t own dragons, ever.

“What do you mean flush it out, how could someone hide a dragon?” Her mom said her face looking confused. The taller of the two men grabbed Calla’s hand quickly yanking her forward and twisting her arm slightly making Calla cry out in pain as he looked at the markings on her arm that Dario had made to mark her as his.

Calla! Dario roared in her head right before he threw the man back with one of his wings snatching Calla away and sheltering her and her family. Out of no where two more dragons landed fifty feet behind the men.

“Stay back, Tobius.” The taller man ordered to one of the other dragons. “He is only doing his job.”

This confused Calla, why wouldn’t they want their dragons to defend them. She slowly walked to the front of Dario looking the men over.

“Listen, we aren’t here to take your dragon, there is no way we could do that. Once they mark a person that person is the only one that can control them. We are here to offer you a position at the academy.” The shorter man replied shifting his feet a little. Calla heard her mother gasp from behind her and she turned to look at them.

“What would it cost us?” Her father asked arms crossed.

“Nothing, we would rather be able to help train her then allow a master and dragon learn on their own and possibly become a threat to mankind.” The taller replied. “There is no catch, if she decides to leave we won’t stop her. But it would be an honor to train her. This particular type of dragon is extremely rare, but also extremely powerful. There are only three others alive today that we know of. To be able to train a Silver Dragon would be amazing.” Dario growled low in his throat when one of the other dragons shifted their weight like the shorter man kept doing.

“Orio, still.” The shorter man said and the dragon froze like a statue making Dario relax a little.

“What do I need?” Calla asked as Dario lowered his head to let her cradle it in her arms.

“Just pack, we will supply you everything else including clothes once you get there.” The taller man smiled. “Have you ridden your dragon yet?”

“Yes, we learned how to do it four years ago.” She replied. The shorter’s man face furrowed.

“How long have you had him?!” He asked surprised.

“Sense he hatched, six years ago.” She replied rubbing Dario’s favorite spot.

“How did we not find them until now?” The shorter asked the taller one.

“It’s a Silver Dragon. That doesn’t surprise me.” The taller replied. “Time is of the esscense. If we could leave now it would be good.” She nodded and walked in her house with her parents Dario staying at the front of the house guarding it.

Do you trust them? Dario asked her as she started packing her stuff.

If they are a problem then we’ll take off and hide for a while. She replied. You can protect me, I’m not worried about that.

Good point. Dario laughed. It didn’t take her but five minutes to pack all her clothes, she didn’t have many and they were old and raggy. She carried the small bag out to the living room and her parents hugged her.

“Write us.” Her mom smiled at her. “We’ll tell your brothers you said bye.”

“Thank you, I will write. I love you!” She hugged them both then walked outside where Dario lowered her head so she could climb between his shoulders.

“No saddle?” The taller man asked.

“Dario doesn’t like the feel of them and I stay on just fine.” She replied as Dario straightened up.

“Let’s go then.” The shorter replied climbing on his dragon.
~~~
When they got to the Academy she felt completely out of place. Dario walked behind her through the hall ways where amazingly he fit. The two men took her around a court yard where she would’ve sworn everyone was pointing and staring. She stood out like a sore thumb in her torn old dress while everyone else wore new expensive clothes.
Do you want to leave? Dario asked softly.
Not yet. She replied as they walked into a big court yard where several very important people stood with their dragons.
“This must be our new student.” A very important man smiled at her. A young man that was standing next to him turned around and looked at her frowning.
"Go pack, boy. We're leaving soon." The gruff man said.
Master Felix? Are you alright? My dragon's voice- he was but a baby, his voice timid and shy- chimed in my head.
No! I snapped at him. I was in my room, packing my bags for a boarding school.
I'm... I'm sorry...
Just stay out of my way! I hissed.
Kala whimpered. I almost regret finding him; he's only gotten in the way of everything. We had found each other when I was hunting a few years ago(I caught a plump deer, I always do); he was just coming out from the egg. I took him to my house, and we've been dragon-and-master ever since.
I want to be his friend; but any relationship is built on respect and obedience.
I kept packing until my five bags were zipped up tight.
Listen, Kala. I'm sorry- really. I just need you to be obedient, and if I fail my mother, she'll... she'll beat me again. I replied, for the first time telling someone. I'm afraid, and I need something I know I can control- and if it's you, then that's fine.
The dragon walked across the room, hesitant but determined. He wormed into my lap. I won't let anything happen to you, Master.
I got up, petting the dragon who came up to my shoulder. There was a small spot where I would sit to fly away on. Call me Felix. That's what my friends call me, anyways.
Am I your friend, Mast- Felix?
A smile tugged at the corner of my lip. Yes.
"Are you packed?"
"Yes, sir." I replied. My mom was standing in the door. She kissed my forehead and muttered a goodbye. I did the same to her, and walked outside. I swung onto Kala's back.
Can you carry me? I asked him, suddenly fond of the creature.
I'll do it or dye trying, just like you taught me, Felix.
You're a good beast.
&*&*&*&*&*&*&
I fit in like a glove at this new school- except for my silver dragon. Everyone seemed to look at it strangely, like it was a huge wart on the face of the school.
Remember, they said we can leave. Kala said, sticking close to me, alarmed by all the different dragons.
Let's give it a bit, I thought. Who knows? There could be a ton of cute girls waiting for me.
Kala chuckled. I love you optimism.
Calla chewed on her lower lip as the people in the room looked her and Dario over. Dario lowered her head nuzzling it in her arms so she would relax a little. The man that had talked to her seemed to smile at it while everyone else looked a little surprised.
"Seems you two have bonded quiet well." He man smiled.
"I raised him, of course we've bonded." She replied frowning at the younger man behind him that studied her. She didn't like him at all. Especially the way that she looked at Dario. What would he want with her dragon.
"Quiet a nice beast." The younger man smiled walking towards her. Dario hissed his head shooting towards the guy. A giant black dragon was instantly behind him but Dario didn't back down. "Relax, Kila, this dragon is of no threat to us."
"Bryan, you are dismissed." The head man growled at the younger. Bryan smirked and smiled at Calla.
"Be seeing you around, Peasant." He laughed making Dario snap at him but Calla caught his head and though she was lifted off the ground Dario stopped and lowered her back down as he watched Bryan and his dragon, Kila, leave.
"You must excuse Bryan, he has grown to think he can run this place." The older man said. "My name is Headmaster Kyron, it is very nice to meet you, Calla. We have one more student coming in today and once he arrives in here we will walk around for a tour." Just then the big doors opened again and a boy and another silver dragon walked in looking around. Though this guy seemed to fit in alot better then Calla did.
We can always leave. Dario replied as he snorted towards the other dragon. They must've lied to us for another silver dragon to be here.
Or you two are related. She replied. Aren't you curious to see what they can teach us here?
Yes, but not if you are going to be teased all the time. I will not tolerate it. Dario replied nuzzling his head in her arms so she would rub his favorite spot again.
I'll keep that in mind, protector. She laughed at him making his snort angerly at her.
Please let me tear that dragon and his master apart. Dario growled tucking her closer to him as he hissed at the other dragon.
No, we will not stoop to his level. His dragon is young, it wouldn't be a fair fight. She replied back to him.
"Actually no, I didn't. You did. I didn't say a word, you insulted me which insulted Dario. And I would be weary to do that. Especially with a baby dragon like you have." She hissed back at him.
"Stop this at once!" Headmaster Kyron snapped. Calla glared at the guy which normally would get her flogged sense his social standing was so much higher then hers but here she seemed to be an equal and she was going to enjoy it.
"I apologize, Headmaster Kyron, Dario felt he should protect me even from verbal attacks. I have already discussed him to relax a little but he isn't used to being around another dragons. Last one we saw tried destroying our town so it would make sense that we are weary of other dragons and their masters." She replied bowing her head slightly to the Headmaster. She was shaking inside though, this was not going to work very well. She didn't fit in at all!
“Let’s start your tour, both of you control your dragons.” Headmaster Kyron said as a giant white dragon stepped behind him lowering it’s head to look at the two smaller dragons. Calla felt like shrinking at the dragons size. Dario stood up a little taller feeling Calla’s nervousness. Headmaster Kyron smiled as a hiss left his dragons lips and Dario didn’t back down. “This is Molio, my dragon. She is fifty years old, which is why she is so big and the biggest dragon in the academy.”
She thinks she can scare me! Dario growled in Calla’s head.
Relax. She replied. She is testing you.
“Let us start the tour.” They started back down the hall into a open court yard where several students were hanging out. “This is where the students can hang out when they don’t have a class or training.” He said as he looked over the students that were there. Calla felt the strange looks she was getting, the snickers, and fingers being pointed. She also noted the flirtatious looks sent Felix’s way.
Why are looks so important to humans? Dario demanded.
Because it shows your social standing. And I’m at the bottom of that totem pole. She replied.
How dare they! He hissed glaring towards the students.
It’s just how it is. She replied softly. Ignore them, we aren’t here to make friends.
“Headmaster Kyron.” A girl smiled walking over and bowing her head slightly. “Is this our new student?” She said motioning towards Felix. A red dragon ambled up behind her barely glancing at Dario and Calla.
“Yes, Rachel, this is Felix and this young lady is Calla.” Headmaster Kyron replied looking over at Calla and smiling. “They are our new arrivals and I would like you and Bryan to show them around. Calla will be rooming in the empty room next to yours.”
“Yes, Headmaster.” Rachel replied frowning towards Calla.
“Thank you, Calla, Felix, I need to run and do a few things. I will meet you up at the end of the tour.” Headmaster Kyron replied before he turned and left. Calla suddenly felt like she was standing up against a wall with swords to her throat. She took a deep breath and looked around the court yard.
“Bryan!” Rachel called over to a group of kids that were sitting together. The guy from earlier walked over and smiled at Felix stretching his hand out to shake his hand.
“I’m Bryan, you must be new.” Bryan smiled at him as he stepped between Calla and Felix completely blocking her off from the conversation.
"Yes, I am. Do you work here, or do you learn?" I asked him. Finally, a man with nobility!
"I am a student; this is my dragon." Behind him was a cowering orange dragon. I gave him one look over and shrugged.
"Nice, but mine is better."
"You stuck-up, hand fed know-it-all-!" The girl began yelling.
"Shush, commoner. Don't talk to your betters." I said, looking at her down my nose.
"It's about time someone put these low-lives in their place." Bryan smiled. "Now, on with the tour?"
I nodded. "Please, lead the way."
The muscled boy nodded, his curly hair bouncing. "At once."
We were led in a dash to classrooms, halls, and other areas, several girls looking up up and down. I gave each one a nice, flirtatious smile. I was used to this treatment.
We finally stopped outside, in a large tennis like court.
"What is this?" I asked.
"Sword, hand-to-hand, and knife fighting courts. A dash of fencing, too."
"Wait. We have to fight?! With swords?!" I cried.
"Yes; this academy is like being knighted, but with a dragon. You learn everything they do up at the castle." Bryan said. I shivered uncontrollably, and he chuckled. "You'll get used to it."
I grumbled; I was being treated like a servant! Where was the food, and banquet halls, the winery?
"I'll show you to your connected rooms." He said.
"Connected?!" The peddler girl and I yelped at the same time.
"Why, yes. You're both silver dragon masters; you will be paired up together and taught together."
I gave a glance at the girl. I wanted the next flight out of this hell-hole, and fast.
Calla frowned as Dario growled low in his throat.
"There is no...." Felix started before Headmaster Kryon walked in cutting him off.
"I see you have been shown around and brought to your rooms. Sorry I didn't inform you that you would be in connected rooms, there is a sitting room between the two so you should have privacy no doubt." Headmaster Kyron smiled.
"It is unethical to put me in an ajoining room with a commoner." Felix hissed.
"At this academy there are no social standings. We are all made equals by our dragons. I would be careful what you say about this young lady, because of her up bringing her and her dragon have already faced more real life situtations then most of our students here. You all will treat her the same as you do everyone else." Headmaster Kyron replied.
He might as well have put a target on my back. Calla moaned to Dario. He means well but it won't be that easy.
No one will hurt you, I won't allow it. Dario replied glaring at the other three students and their dragons.
"Now, Miss Calla I have seen fit to have a new wardrope placed in your room. I hope it is to your liking. Dinner is in half an hour and you would be best not to be late. Rachel, Bryan, thank you for showing them around I hope you will introduce them to some of the other students so that they will meld right in here." With that Headmaster Kyron left the room leaving Calla very uneasy. She turned and walked to the room with her name on it. Not feeling the need to explain to the others what she was doing even if they did care.
When she stepped in her room, Dario right behind her, she was surprised to see the grandness of it. Dario laid down on the floor watching her as she moved around the room. She opened up the dresser drawers seeing leather pants and tops, probably for fighting. There were nice dresses in the closet along with ball gowns. A note on her dresser said the dresses were for meals and meetings, otherwise she had a pick of what to wear. She sorted through the clothes picking out a light blue dress to match her eyes. She pulled her clothes off throwing them in a pile pulling the new clothes on and looking in the mirror.
Now I"ll have to fight the boys off cause they'll want to court you. Dario laughed.
That is highly unlikely. She replied as she did her hair up and walked over to him rubbing his head. If you ever want to leave let me know and we will leave. Until then I want to try and stick it out. It'll be hard, but like I said..
We aren't here to make friends, just learn. He nodded nuzzling her arm. Now, may I please escort you to the dinning hall, mistress?
We'll be early. She giggled pushing his big head away. His teasing always made her happy again.
If we don't get lost. Dario smiled standing up and streching as he walked towards the door. She ran after him and through the door. She froze when she saw Felix, Rachel, and Bryan talking. Ignore them and keep walking. Walk like you are the queen and they are your lowers. She smiled, held her head high and walked out the door not taking a second glance at the three.
I just realized the similarity in names; I'll fix my dragon's at once :)
I glanced around, momentarily stunned by the girl walking down the hall. She was quite adorable! It wasn't until I saw her dragon snarling at me that I realized it was just Calla.
"Hey, for a commoner, you isn't that bad." One boy said, walking towards it.
Calla blushed heavily. "Thanks... I suppose."
I laughed. "Commoners. Maybe I'll take he under my wing, teach her the ropes of seeming like a noble."
"I'd like to see you try! Commoners are as dumb and stubborn as a stump." Bryan laughed.
My mind bristled with anger, emotions pouring into my dragon, Amelle. He snarled, growling with all the ferocity his adorable three-year-old self could muster.
"Hey! What's your name- Valla, is it?" I asked her, running up. Ooh, I'd show them!
"Calla." She said angrily, moving her entire body to the side.
"A noble just flips her head to the side when belittled." He told her, flipping his head in demonstration.
That earned a small laugh, but she soon got herself under control. "I.. uh... do noteht speaketh to thoseth who are mean to me- eth." She said with some strange, medieval accent.
"Bring yourself up to date. No one talks like that- unless they're trying to make a fool of themselves. Drop the 'eth's'- and put attitude into it." I scowled down at the girl, putting my node up and glancing down at her. "'I will not speak to those who talk ill of me.'" I glanced over at her, eyes dancing. This was sort of fun! "Try it."
"No." She said, both of our dragons snarling. "I know all I need to know about being noble, thank you very much."
"Eh? Which spoon is supposed to go on the top, when you set the table?"
"Uh-"
"Or, how 'bout this- how do you accept flowers from a man?"
"Let's see..."
"Or how to refuse dancing, if you are at a ball with someone already?"
"That's-"
"Exactly." I laughed. "If you're to become respected like a noble, you'll need a no shit-"
"Hey!" She grumbled.
I ignored her. "Attitude and you'll need to know how to act like a noble."
"And if I don't want to act like a stuck up know it all noble? What then?" She demanded hands on her hips as she frown at him Dario standing full height frowning down at Felix and his dragon.
"Around here you need to know how to or you'll always be the outcast." He replied crossing his arms.
"Seems it's to late for that, you should've caught me before I walked in dressed in my normal clothes." She replied pushing past him and continuing down the hall.
"Wait, I'm just trying to help you don't need to be rude." He replied chasing after her.
"Really now, cause how do I know you aren't just trying to make fun of me." She replied hands on her hips. "I might be a commoner, and you all might think I'm stupid enough to fall for your royalty jokes, but you know nothing about me. And you do understand that trying to be my friend is only going to make you an outcast too, right?"
"I'm not always rude." Was my terrible comeback. Honestly, she had hit me hard with that one.
"I've yet too see that!"
"And don't worry about my well-being on the totem pole, Calla. Me trying' to make you all proper won't hurt me in the least bit."
"But-"
"Listen. All this comes to is if you want to be respected as a Dragon Master or be some unknown who happens to have a silver dragon by her side. I can get you the first one- but you have to trust me, Calla."
"But-" She repeated.
First impressions aren't always correct, Amelle told her.
"Do you want me to help you become a noble or not?" I asked.
It would help us fit in and be able to learn better. The more friends you make the more people to help you train and study. Dario replied. She frowned chewing on her bottom lip as she thought. It doesn't mean you have to be a normal noble and act like all that.
"Under one condition." She replied shifting a little.
"That is?" He asked eyebrow raised.
"I will not act like a jerk." She replied putting her hands firmly on her hips.
"It's possible." He replied with a slight smile.
"And I won't act like a prissy little girl who can't do anything for herself." She added. "I can take care of myself, and have my whole life. Unlike most of the kids here I haven't had everything handed to myself my whole life and I"m not about to act like I did. I'm very proud of my up bringing and what my family was able to provide me."
I sighed. "It could be arranged." I muttered finally.
"Then I'm in."
I quickly turned around and winked to the group, who as staring openly.
"Alright. Where it start?" I mumbled to myself. "Well, first of all, most nobles are flirtatious- especially if they are as cute as you are." I said, tweaking her nose. She blushed a tad, and opened her mouth in shock.
"If you're going to do that-!"
"Relax! Jeeze, it was a demonstration." I lied.
"Oh."
I chuckled. "Here. point out a boy you like, and I'll help you get his attention."
Calla frowned, "Now you have me confused with other girls. I don't crush on guys. It's a waste of time." She replied. "It's time for the meal and I'm sure unlike you I'm hungry." She replied giving him a small smile, turning on her heel and walking the rest of the way to the dining hall. She found an empty table and sat down Dario laid down behind her like everyone else's dragon was.
"Holy cow we never get new students especially with silver dragons!" A girl squealed dancing over and sitting next to Calla. "Oh, two new and one is super hot! Though he's hanging with them." The girl smiled as Rachel, Bryan and Felix walked over and sat at the table. Calla blinked not having been able to get a word in edge wise.
"Elise." Rachel said bluntly looking the girl up and down then back at her white dragon.
"Rachel, Bryan, how good to see you again. It's been a while sense I had to leave to go to the castle for a few months. Held everything down ok here?" Elise asked with a smirk on her face as she smiled towards Felix. Her personality had completely changed sense Rachel and Bryan sat down. "And how is the Academy's shinning couple?" Rachel scowled at the girl and Bryan rolled his eyes. Calla shifted uneasily in her seat at the slight tension at the table. "Oh, sorry I'm Elise, you two are? Y'all must be a pair because you both have Silver dragons, it's still so awesome to see someone with the rarest dragon around. Shay is one of the second rarests dragons."
I smirked. "For some strange reason, I don't think she'd go for me."
Calla nodded in agreement.
"I'm single, don't worry." I said at her wide-eyed glare. "Haven't gotten sabotaged yet."
"Oh! That's wonderful." Her blue eyes were sparkling, blond hair falling in waves down until her mid-diff area.
"I gotta get to know a girl before I can have something with her." I said with a wink. This girl would be a good stater into the romance of this palace of cute girls.
"Oh, you're one of the thoughtful, romantic boys?" She said with a sigh.
"I like to fancy myself as one." He said with a smile. "But who knows? I have a dark side not many people know about."
The girl looked at me with large eyes. "I'm Rachel."
"Felix." He put out his hand and took hers in his, kissing her hand lightly.
"Do you want to... hang out later tonight at the courtyard here? It's a wonderful view of the stars." She asked. I smiled, glancing at her and wondering if Calla would object before agreeing.
***That's Elise, Rachel is the one with Bryan. :P ***
Calla rolled her eyes at their flirting and grabbed her drink of water taking a sip of it. Unlike what seemed to be the rest of the teenagers here she was here to study and get back home. Not play the petty 'I think he's cute' games.
She talks really fast. Dario said about Elise as he nuzzled Calla's shoulder before looking at the girl next to her.
"Just so you know, the dragons are supposed to stay away from the tables." Rachel said hotly to Calla.
Dario, back up a little so we don't get in trouble. They think you'll steal our food I guess. Calla shrugged rubbing his favorite spot.
Elise got a little frustrated when the conversation had turned away from her question. She wasn't giving up though.
"So?" She asked smiling at Felix again.
