**Hm, maybe they have this big party or something? Like a sort of get together. I don't know...but for now...there will be a slight time skip...**

"Stupid, stupid, boy," Ivy growled, stomping out of the house. Colton and Ivy had been at each others throats for days now. The worst part was...was that she enjoyed the attention from him.

"Where are you going?" Ella called as Ivy stormed out of the house. She heard Colton mumble something about not caring if she left for good.

"I'm going for a walk!" She yelled, her bare feet slapping against the dusty path. A month ago she wouldn't have dared to try walking barefoot but, mush to her dismay, her feet had gotten tougher and weren't as soft as they used to be. Still, she was in the country and she knew that her life would change.

Ivy went deep into the path and lay on the old log she discovered her first day here. Her dress fanned out around it and Ivy took out the pins in her hair, letting it fall free as well.

It was just getting dark now and she spotted a few of the first stars beginning to come out. Ivy closed her eyes and hummed a soft tune, Annie, her favorite nanny, used to sing to her to get her to calm dawn.

"I swear he's going to be the death of me," Ivy sighed, still upset. She hadn't realized that she was already starting to fall asleep, despite how lumpy and uncomfortable the log was.

"Colt, I don't care if you get alone with her or not go find her." His pa said sternly when Ivy neglected to come back that night. He pulled his boots on and walked outside.

"Stupid girl." He sighed. "She'll be the end of me, I'm sure of it." He walked down the path she always went down and found her fast asleep. He picked her up not bothering to wake her and started towards the house very aware of how small and pretty she was. She smelled good too. To good infact cause he couldn't stop thinking about what it could be.

Ivy sighed in her sleep. She was aware of warm arms wrapped around her. She shivered and snuggled closer to the warmth. Soft, yet calloused hands held her gently. They felt familiar and it comforted her. She rocked slowly, almost as if someone was carrying her.

Wait a second, she thought, still half asleep. Ivy's eye's fluttered open. She saw Colton's face above hers and through her still foggy mind she only registered two things. It was the middle of the night and a very strong guy was carrying her off somewhere.

Ivy pushed him and cried out in alarm. she fell out of his arms and Colton struggled to keep her from hitting her head.

"Jesus Ivy!" He yelled. "What's wrong with you?" He was annoyed.

Well, Ivy was fully awake now and standing up on her own. "What's wrong with me?" She asked, hands on her hips. "Are you aware of the fact that you could have woke me up before taking me back to your house?"

"Yeah, well, I didn't expect you to wake up and freak out like that," Colton replied, glaring.

"Oh, yeah? Well how do you suspect I'd react when I realized there was someone carrying me off somewhere in the middle of the night? I was groggy and it was a reflex reaction," Ivy said, instantly defending herself. Despite how confidant she sounded her cheeks flamed a slight pink color. She hoped Colton couldn't see it in the dark.

"Besides, I've got two legs. I could have walked," she said stubbornly.

"You're impossible!" He declared, exasperated.

"And you're just being ridiculous," Ivy said through gritted teeth. She turned away from him and walked away. Her exit was as graceful as always...until she stumbled over a root. Blushing furiously, she kept moving, trying to get away from Colton before he could see her embaressment.

Colt growled low in his throat. Why couldn't she just stop being so independent for once. He was tired of having her yelling at him, but he couldn't ignore her. She pulled at his heart strings and no matter how much it angered him he couldn't stop it.

**No big! ^_^ I'm going to do a sort of 'time skip' Ella said that their would be parties after they finished rebuilding the ruined barns, and so there shall be. I'll change it if you want though. (:**

Ivy turned in the mirror. Her dress was tight across her chest and torso but once it reached her hips it flared out a little. Not too big, but there was a slight difference. She had her brown-blonde hair down, since that's what Ella was doing too, with one side held back in a clip. They weren't really dressed up, but they looked nice.

"So, you definetly have an escort then?" Ivy asked nervously. Ella smiled pleasntly and nodded.

"Yeah, it was a bit of a surprise, but Adam asked me," she grinned.

Ivy sighed and plopped down in a chair.

"Oh stop moping," Ella rolled her eyes. "Lot's of people go without escorts, Ivy. I used to always go with Colton. Talk about embaressing," she laughed a little to cheer her up.

"Yeah, well, back home, I always had an escort. Here...I'm just the snobby new girl," Ivy sighed, miserable.

"Look at you though!" Ella exclaimed. "You look great. Once you get there I'm sure you'll have at least someone wanting to dance with you. Besides, no one really knows you now...you've gotten...better."

Ivy laughed at that. "Gee thanks Ella," she smiled. "I suppose it dosen't matter anyway. There's not really anyone I want to go with anyway." It wasn't exactly a lie. Sure, it would have been nice if Colton would have escorted her...

HOld up a second, she thought, angrily. Don't you even go there.

"Alright. I suppose we've held everyone up long enough," Ivy nodded to Ella. "Let's get out of here."

Colton hitched the horses up to the wagon as Adam rode up on his.

"Howdy, Adam." Colton smiled as he led the horses, which were pulling the wagon, to the front of the house.

"So your escorting Miss Ivy?" Adam asked.

"Not technically, but she has to get there some how." Colt smiled as they walked inside. Ella and Ivy walked out and Colt bit the inside of his lip to keep from letting his jaw drop. He knew Ivy was beautiful, but when she tried she was even prettier.

"You look beautiful, Ella." Adam smiled. Ella's cheeks flared red as their parents walked in.

"Hello, Adam." His pa said.

"Howdy."

"Colton will be taking you, Ivy." His ma said. "That is if you don't mind."

Ivy's heart stuttered a little. So he was really going to take her then? Ivy pursed her lips. His parents were making him, just to be nice, she thought, irritably.

"Of course I don't mind," Ivy said with a gentle smile.

She looked at Colton and swallowed. No one back home looked like him. He had a...toughness about him that none of the snooty, rich boys could compete with. She met his gaze. Ivy felt like she could stare into those eyes all day.

"Ready?" Colton asked, looking away. Ivy nodded, slightly embaressed.

Ivy looked over to Ella, whose cheeks were still burning a pale pink, and laughed a little. Ella looked completely content there with Adam's hand now folded around hers. It was a little gesture that showed how much he cared for her.

"Ella is very lucky," Ivy whispered to Colton unconsiously. Colton's brow furrowed.

"What?" He asked, shocked. Ivy blushed.

"Not like that!" She exclaimed. "I have no interest in Adam. I was just saying that she was lucky to have a guy like him. Look at them. He really cares for her. Back home, the only guys that I talked to were mostly talking to me because I was rich, powerful and pretty," Ivy admitted, reluctantly.

She turned away from Colton and prepared to leave. It hurt to admit that. She knew that she would probably never love anyone and they would never love her. Every guy always chased after her for the wrong reasons.

"Well, thats a shame. Thats no way to look at a lady." he said softly as he held his arm out. She took it and he led her outside lifting her gently up onto the wagon seat and then climbing on the other side. They rode in silence for a while and he didn't know what to say. "Do you mind going with me?" He asked.

"No." She replied.

"Even if I drive you up the wall?" He asked looking over at her and smiling.

"It's better than going alone," Ivy shrugged.

"Gee thanks," Colton muttered. Ivy laughed.

"It was a joke, lighten up," she smiled.

"You're one to talk. Never thought I'd hear you tell me to lighten up," Colton grinned.

Ivy rolled her eyes. "Besides, you don't ALWAYS drive me up the wall," she said. "I would rather have you as an escort than the guys back home." Ivy blushed a little, though she wasn't sure why.

"I would take that as a compliment if you hadn't told me about how those men were out east," Colton shrugged.

They sat in silence a little longer. Then the building loomed in front of them. "Wow, it looks pretty packed," Ivy mused.

Colton laughed, a deep enchanting sound. Ivy liked his laugh...it just sounded different. "That's because we haven't had an actually get together in months," he explained. "It's not just you easterners who party you know."

"We just party less often, but when we do there is more of us." He walked over to her side of the wagon after stopping it and helped her down. He bowed dramatically and offered his arm. "Ma'am." She giggled and then took his arm as he led her to the door of the barn. Adam and Ella right behind him.

"It is packed." She said looking around. He nodded and led her to the other side of the barn where there was a few tables set up.

"Like I said. Just wait until the band strikes up a song and everyone starts dancing. It's so much fun." he smiled.

Ivy fidgeted a little. "I don't think I'll be dancing, actually," she told him. Colton raised an eyebrow.

"And why is that?" He asked. Ivy pursed her lips.

"Because I'm pretty sure the dancing here is a lot less formal than the dancing at my home. I really only know how to dance formally," Ivy smiled ruefully.

Colton's smile grew wider and Ivy wasn't sure she liked where this was heading.

"Oh, don't worry, I'm sure you'll be able to dance just fine," Colton grinned.

"I won't be going out there at all, actually," Ivy said, nervously.

"We'll see," he laughed. Ivy narrowed her eyes. This wasn't funny, she was actually nervous.

As she looked around, Ivy realized Ella was right. A lot of the younger kids didn't have escorts. She saw a few girls looking at Colton and for some strange reason, Ivy didn't like that. Her stomach twisted and she scooted closer to Colton.

Ivy's eyebrows knit together. She wasn't...jealous was she? Ivy took a deep breath and almost laughed. Of course not. How could she be jealous of anyone here? She didn't like Colton, she just couldn't. They argued, they fought, they drove each other nuts. She most definitely didn't have any feelings for him.

Still, she couldn't help but notice one girl's gaze was still fixated on Colton.

Colt smiled down at her as the group that was going to play the music struck up a cord. There was a fiddle, a violin, and a guitar.

"Come on, I'll show you how to dance." He said motioning to the dance floor where they were all doing a step dance. "It's easy you just do what I do with your feet."

"I don't know. I think I'll stay here." She said nervously. He grabbed her arm gently and led her onto the floor.

"Relax, have some fun." he smiled as he started dancing. "Just do what I do, this one is easy."
