The guards above saw her coming and began to open the gate slowly. Tomhas slowed his horse to a walk, taking a deep breath.

They were only half open by the time she got there but she still shot through them and rushed up to the courtyard, looking for her family.

There was no one there yet, just a few servants and guards milling about. Ka'Nor descended the walls though, a broad smile on his face. His sister was beside him. "Ky, welcome back!" He spread his arms. "How are you? How was the journey?"

She was slightly disappointed that her family wasn’t outside, but she was happy enough to see Ka’Nor she supposed. Especially now that she’d noticed her father had tricked her. She offered a small smile and dismounted, stepping towards him. “I’m well.” Ish. “How are you?”

"Well enough, well enough." He glanced toward the gates. "I see the others are lagging behind. Was the trip very exhausting? Did you have good weather?"

“As well as can be expected.” Ky shrugged and glanced towards the gates. “… I thought Father was right behind me. I’m not sure where he went.”

"He's just there." He pointed; Tomhas was well behind Ky, only just at the bottom of the hill now. "I saw you two hurtling this way. Seems you won!"

Ky forced the weakest of smiles and nodded. He’d tricked her. Why would he do such a thing? “Seems so.”

"Shall we wait on them or get you inside to eat and get warm? You look like you could use a hot meal."

“Um…” Ky hesitated, glancing from the gate to the Keep. “Where’s… where is everyone?” She was disappointed. She’d expected more of a reception. It was grueling to be so near to her family but not have them here.

"Going about their business," Ka'Nor replied. "We weren't expecting you for another couple days."

“Really?” Ky blinked. “Why not? It took us forever.”

"You're two days early, actually." He smiled slightly. "Time slows on the road, doesn't it? Come, I'll have a servant let them know you're here."

“Okay…” Ky hesitated, realizing she was still holding the reins of her horse. ”Uh…”

Ka'Nor called a groom over to take the horse from her, then caught the attention of a passing servant.
