Cloudy Virus

(Branch off from the Gifted World)

Aiden tugs his backpack up. First day of junior year. Great. In middle school, he would’ve been excited for the first day of school. He was popular, people liked him and most importantly, he could manipulate them like marionette dolls. Now? Not so much. He was still looking forward to it because new younger kids meant more people to intimidate and possibly become friends with. He walks into the school through the front entrance.

Cloud hastily slung a backpack over his shoulder.

"I'm going to be late for my first day at school," he told himself, smiling and savoring the sentence. It was possible that Cloud had never been to school before-- it was hard to remember. Most of his life was staying on the run, using aliases, casually knocking people out, and generally trying to have a fun time.

It was his first time going to high school-- or any school at all. Cloud signed up to this school as a girl named Shelly, since it would probably swing the authorities away from his scent. Anything official had to be precariously planned, lest Cloud get caught by the authorities.

Cloud saw many different skin tones and hair colors. Blondes, brunettes, simple black hair. Too many.

Cloud put on a lazy smile and walked purposefully towards the school building.

I wonder who will be in my class? he thought.

Ken arrived at his math class just as the final bell rang and smirked at the teacher, who was eyeing him, disappointed. He’d had her for the past two years, and each time she seemed just as charmed but confused in him. She was stuck teaching Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II, which Ken didn’t fully understand how she taught all but who was he to complain? She was easy as far as teachers went. He had to stop himself from looking annoyed as he caught sight of freshmen in his Algebra II class. Little smart asses probably thought they were special didn’t they? But instead he lets a smile form on his face. He’s the cool older kid in this class. If he plays his cards right, he could have someone to do his homework for him by the end of the class period.

Cloud saw a junior smile at him. He smiled back. That guy was so cool! Nevertheless, the Algebra II class was easy. Cloud had learned math from Archimedes himself and a little bit from Newton. This school was merely for enjoyment.

Ken fiddled with his pen. He even considered faking being sick so he could leave to go to the nurses office, but that was no good of course. They had all the kids’ powers in their profiles so it was easier to track any crimes that occurred, and he’d never been sick in his life, so they knew. This was boring.

“Mr. Daniels,” Ms. Shephard said from the front of the classroom. “You’ve been in my class before. Would you mind telling all the new students what my saying is?”

Ken smirked. “Be the one who decided to go for it,” he said coolly.

“Exactly,” she affirmed. “You’ll never solve a problem if you do not attempt it first. Now, with that said, we are nearly out of time. This class period we went over rules and regulations, but expect us to dive right in next class period. I expect everyone to have their materials by next week. Remember, if we stick together, we will thrive.” She smiled. “In your last five minutes, feel free to talk with new people and make some new friends. When you leave, please push your chairs in.”

Cloud immediately walked over to the blonde that smiled at him. First friend at this school? Maybe.

"Salutations," said Cloud, pointing at Ken.

Ken grinned. “What’s up? You’re a freshman right? I’m Ken.”

"Hello, Ken," said Cloud, cursing his robotic tone, "Um, do you like Algebra II?"
