Nikolai grimaced at the mention of bugs, but laughed. "Ick. No thanks to any creepy crawly things, please, I'm very glad we don't have so many of those here. Bugs are ew. Mud is ew. We have very different ideas of interesting."
He was about to crack an egg into a bowl, but then he realized Mel had said real skies. Well, of course the sky was real. What did that mean? There was plenty of joking drama in her statement, but that didn't seem to have been added for humor. Suddenly there was something gooey in his hand, and he lifted it up in confusion, dripping clear whiteish slime all the way. A bright yellow yolk had fallen on the counter. He'd gotten distracted and cracked the egg without doing it over the bowl.
"Whoops," he muttered, sighing as he cleaned up the mess and washed the egg white off his hands. "Also, raw eggs are ew."
Once he'd finished with that, Nikolai remembered the thought that had made him distracted in the first place. He grabbed another egg, and made sure to do it right this time before he turned back to Mel, trying not to look too embarrassed.
"What did you mean by real skies?" he asked.
