The Roleplay Duos Contest

An Official Storybook Month Contest

Roleplay Duos are like roleplays on a smaller scale. As the name suggests, they're between two people. The posts tend to be on the smaller side, but they're the same as roleplaying when it comes to varying post lengths. When it comes to writing for other people's characters, the rules vary depending on the writers involved. Some posts may focus specifically on the actions of a single person's character(s), while others may be collaborated on by both people.

The premise behind this contest is simple: you and another person write a Roleplay Duos thread together. There are a few requirements for you to include to be a part of the contest, but the rest is mostly up to you. You can pick the genre, the characters, the plot, the length - we'll just judge what thread tells the strongest story. Even if you're unable to finish it, we'll judge it with what you already have written.

The contest begins on July 1st and ends on August 31st - anything posted after that point won't be included when judging your story. You're still free to keep writing the story, though!

The Requirements

1. The names of the writers need to be included in the first post.

2. The thread should have title. It doesn't have to be included in the first post.

3. The first post should be what the story is about. Some stories might need longer explanations than others; this is required so the judges know all the background knowledge needed to understand the characters, setting and plot.

4. Posts should alternate between writers. Collaboration on posts is allowed, but the same person shouldn't be posting multiple times in a row. Grimmore: Kindred Spirits is an example of a thread where writers collaborated on posts together, while James and the Bounty Hunter is a thread that has no collaboration on individual posts. Both of these threads would be valid entries for the contest.

You can write multiple threads with multiple different people, but you can only submit one thread per pair. Any pairs should be posted in this thread, as well as a link to your entry.

Please post your pair once you decide on who you're writing with, and link your entry as soon as you can - it won't be judged until after August 31st, but it gives the judges a chance to read the story as you post it.

The Prizes

(The same person can win multiple prizes through different partnerships.)

First Place - 1000 points each.
Second Place - 750 points each.
Third Place - 500 points each.

Every participant will receive a badge for their involvement in Storybook Month.

If you need a partner, please request one here. You'll be paired up with someone also looking for one.

Question! Do threads have to be started (and finished) in the month of July to be eligible entries?

So, say I started a DTWH in February but finished it in July, would that be eligible? Or no? (Sorry, I'm a bit confused).

It wouldn't, @LZPianoGirl! The only thread eligible are the ones made starting today - anything before it doesn't count.

I hope that helps!

Thanks!

@Liberty and I are going to enter the competition with this DTWH: The Royalty Rendezvous! It's the sequel to The Celebrity Conundrum, but you don't need to know anything about The Celebrity Conundrum to follow along!

I've also gone mad - @EditorAndPerks and I are both doubling up on our entries with Show Business! I hope the judges enjoy it. :)

@Liberty, good question! The reason the judges haven't been mentioned yet is because we're still trying to decide on definitive list for them. The contest doesn't end until the end of August, so we haven't felt too pressured to come up with a permanent list of them. :)
