"I'm not sure," Tim replied. His tone was tense; James shifted uncomfortably at the rising tension. "I know what it does, but I don't know why he uses it. I don't keep up to date on everything he does."

Megara looked him up and down, glanced at Eddie. They had to get home sooner than later.

She sighed, "Alright, take us to it."

Tim nodded.

He led them back into the manor, bringing them to the secret entrance that led into the Batcave. It wasn't something they could hide, but he also doubted they would need to. This would be the only time Megara and Eddie were in Gotham - there was no need for secrecy anymore.

They stepped into the Batcave.

Megara looked around, taking in the strange devices, the costumes on display. Apparently they all dressed as noticeably as possible when doing...whatever it was they did.

Tim still kept the lead as they approached the device that would send Megara and Eddie back to their world, despite James being the one who had spent the most time in the cave.

The device itself didn't look all that notable. It almost looked like a projector. But Tim had done his research well; even if he didn't remember it showing up in one of the issues, he had checked the computer to see what Bruce used it for.

"This is it," he said. "I just need to turn it on."

"Well, what are you waiting for?" Megara asked, her annoyance mostly fake. She wasn't in too big a hurry.

She remembered the notebook stored away in her coat. "You should really have better security around here."

James raised an eyebrow.

"The cave is supposed to be secret," he pointed out - his focus just barely on Tim as he turned on the device and started connecting it to the other world. "It doesn't need security."

Megara rolled her eyes, "I was talking about Tim's little closet of secret detective work, though this cave is kinda obvious." Taking Eddie's hand, she stepped up to the device, looking it over and barely glancing at Tim as she took out the notebook with her free hand and offered it to him, "This is yours, I believe?"

He blinked and stared down at the book.

"How did you-" he started, only to stop and look back at her. "...Did you do anything to it?"

She rolled her eyes, "Are you going to send Eddie and I home or not?"

She hadn't done anything to it, but his anxiety over the matter was fun.

Tim gave her a wary look, but he put the book aside and turned back to the device.

"I can send you back now," he said. "Before I do, do you have anything else you need to hand back?"

James, meanwhile, grabbed the book and started flipping through its pages. It had been awhile since he had looked at Tim's notes; he forgot how detailed they were.

"No, that's all," Megara confirmed. She sort of wished she'd have taken something else. A souvenir of some kind to make that statement a lie. But Eddie was tugging impatiently at her arm, so she didn't exactly have time to grab something now.

James closed the book. He could read it more later; this was more pressing.

Tim nodded.

"Okay," he said. He started to press the button that would make the portal to the other world appear, but paused and looked over at the two. "...Goodbye."

James nodded in agreement.

"Bye," he softly said. "...And thank you for earlier."

Tim gave him a questioning look, but James didn't provide an explanation.

Megara smiled at him, "Goodbye." She held Eddie's hand a little tighter as she prepared to go home.

Tim turned the device on.

In only a matter of seconds, Megara and Eddie were gone - back to a world that Tim would never see. He waited a moment before quietly shutting the device off. Then he turned to James, watching him as he opened up Jason's book and flipped through it.

"Can I borrow this?" he asked.

Tim stared. "Why?"

"I just want to study what Jason is doing," he said.

Tim looked unconvinced, but he gave a nod. "I'm going to go back to my house now," he said. "I need to finish some notes."

James gave a small, distracted nod of his own.

And then Tim was gone, leaving James alone in the Batcave with the closest thing to Jason that James could ever get.

I’d heard he had started a fistfight in one of the seedier local taverns because someone had insisted on saying the word “utilize” instead of “use".
