Molly growled at the king.

"I'm not trying to insult you," Maahes promised. He shot a glance down at Molly. "It's okay, Molly. I'm alright."

Molly looked unconvinced - she just sat and watched the king as he kept Maahes up against the wall, the ripped pillow forgotten beside her.

"I'm not trying to insult you," he promised. "I didn’t know the customs here. I guessed you were royalty, and guessed you had money at your disposal, but I didn't want you to have to pay for something I was indirectly responsible for destroying - even if you would have plenty of money to spare afterwards."

Soren ignored the lion cub, but his control over Arryn was pretty secure. Arryn growled under his breath about stupid, arrogant kings. Apparently, his king was ignoring him as well--and Arryn didn't like that.

"Soren, let me go and let Leo go before I decide to tell Evaric about this--"

"Arryn," Soren said conversationally and calmly. "Don't make me order you to shut up."

Arryn snapped his mouth shut and glared. He knew a threat when he was given one. Fine, he'd shut up but he wouldn't let his king forget his behaviour later. He'd make sure he remembered how aggressive and confrontational he was to a stranger.

"Now," the king said, returning his full attention to the man. "Are you done apologizing and trying to offer me money that I don't need?"

Maahes nodded.

"Yes," he said, wishing he was anywhere but in this room with this king.

"Good," Soren grunted and shoved off him, away from the wall. He was careful with the blade this time and made sure he didn't accidentally nick Leo's throat when he moved. "Keep your money. I have plenty of it, and plenty of pillows."

Arryn blew out a relieved breath and then cleared his throat. "Uh, Sir? If you don't mind?"

Soren turned to fix him with a knowing look and Arryn flushed. His king just raised an eyebrow and suddenly all of Soren's magic just dropped away. Arryn stumbled forward a few steps, right into Soren's arms.

"You need to stop falling all over me, Arryn. Whatever will the guards say?"

"Shut up," Arryn muttered and hid his flushed face in Soren's chest. His king chuckled.

Once the knife was gone, Leo quickly slid the coin back into its bag and returned the bag to its pocket. He didn’t dare move, even as they started to flirt. The king was volatile, and he didn’t want to anger him by trying to leave.

Soren shifted beneath him and Arryn sighed, finally pulling away. It was at that moment that he realised he didn't have a shirt on. He glanced towards their intruder in horror and then squirmed out of Soren's hold, darting beyond the bed and over to the partition. He slid behind it and sat down on the stool there, dropping his head down into his hands.

"Please tell me you did see anything!" he said, voice slightly smothered.

"Arryn," Soren said with a sigh. "I don't think he'll care--"

Maahes had seen the scars on the man's back, but he shook his head anyways. He had seen scars like that before - Vala was littered with scars, even though she hid them underneath clothing and makeup. He had grown used to the side of old, healed wounds even before her; the past was littered with wars and accidents he had bore witness to.

"I didn't," he lied.

Molly rubbed up against his leg. He took it as a sign that she wanted to be picked up again, so he lifted her off of the ground and held her against his shoulder like a person might hold a baby.

Soren glanced towards Leo and offered the man a tiny nod. Even if their guest had seen Arryn's scars, it would be better if his lover thought he hadn't. He sighed and turned away, making to head for the partition that Arryn was hiding behind.

"Arryn," he said and heard a smothered half-sob. Soren hesitated, glancing back at Leo. The man didn't appear to have heard--or noticed--anything, though. "Arryn, I'll find you a shirt. Stay there."

Soren turned back to pin Leo with a dark look, telling him without words not to move. The man didn't do more than pick the cub up again and start petting her. Soren nodded and stalked across the room to their wardrobe, grabbed the first shirt he found and took it over to where Arryn was hiding behind the partition.

"Here," he said, leaning around to hold the shirt out Arryn.

"Thanks," Arryn muttered, accepting the shirt. Soren didn't stay to watch him put it on; he returned to where Leo was standing and glowered at him.

"So," Soren began, watching the man and the lion cub carefully, "how long do you think you'll be here for?"

"I'm not really sure," he admitted. Molly let out a purr as she nudged him in the neck. She was beginning to softly knead his back, but he didn't mind the feeling of her clothes scrapping up against the leather. "...Do you have a stargate here, by any chance?"

Arryn came out from behind the partition and exchanged a confused glance with Soren. Soren raised an eyebrow and focused on Leo again. What...a strange thing to mention. He had no idea what it was, and clearly his king didn't either.

"A what?" Soren asked at the same time as Arryn said, "What's a stargate?"

Either they didn't have one, or they had one and had a different term for it - he'd have to do his best at trying to describe it. "It's a stone circle," he said. "I think it's at least twice my height. It has a control pad a short distance away where you can input symbols. When you hit certain ones, a blue portal fills the circle."

Molly nudged him a little harder, but all he did was give her a pet on the back; it was a comforting feeling.

"It's also been called an ancestral ring, astria porta, and a chappa'ai," he added, just in case one of those names sounded more familiar.

Again, they exchanged a confused glance. "None of that means anything to us," Soren said and tugged Arryn into his side. "Since it seems like you'll be here for a while, would you like to join us for dinner tonight?" Arryn eyed the cub and nudged him. Soren's gazed narrowed and he shot Arryn a little glare.. "Of course, we can provide food for the cub, too."

Maahes looked over at Molly. The man doing the asking seemed to genuinely be asking if he wanted to stay for dinner.

There was just one little problem.

...Spirits didn't eat, but he was pretending to be human.

And it would be rude to turn down the request, especially since they would make sure Molly had food...

"I would like to," he confirmed. "Thank you for the offer."

"You're welcome," Soren said, sliding his hand down to Arryn's hip. "Dinner will be in a little over an hour. One of the guards will escort you to a room where you may wait." He gave the man a meaningful look. "Now, if you'll excuse us?"

He nodded.

Readjusting Molly in his arms, he tried to figure out what he was supposed to do next. He didn't want to incur the king's wrath by trying to leave to find the guard, but also didn't want to incur it by staying. He settled with carefully making his way over to the door, awkwardly lingering beside it as a compromise between the two possible options.

"...Should I go out there, or will the guard come in?" Maahes hesitantly asked.
