oooh, maybe there are like good magic people and bad magic people and only a few good and bad ones are left after most are killed off, and the bad ones find out about the brothers first and trick them into thinking theyre the good guys

maybe they could be like "oops your parents got exposed to this radioactive isotope and you were born and now you have powers but youre not supposed to exist so now the government wants you dead"
