Welcome to the Will Review for Food Forum!

Will Review for Food (WRFF) is a place where you can request reviews for your works. Unlike most request forums, instead of posting a thread to request reviews, kindhearted reviewers make threads to offer their reviewing services, and people seeking reviews then post their requests in those threads.

If that was confusing, you are not alone! WRFF is a pretty confusing forum in general, and so this thread exists to be a one-stop reference to find the information you need.

If this is your first time in WRFF, I recommend reading this thread all the way through. Otherwise, you can use the links in the Table of Contents to jump directly down to the section you need a refresher on.

Rules

1. There is a limit of four open requests at a time.

What this means is that you can make four requests in one go. As those requests get filled (by thread owners reviewing the requested work), you can request more reviews. If a request does not get filled within three days, that request is considered closed, and you are free to request another review.

2. Respect the thread owners.

What this means is that you should read and follow the rules in the first post of every thread you post a request in. Additionally, even if you don't agree with what the person said in their review, acting ungratefully towards the reviewer is not tolerated. If you can't find anything nice to say in response to a review, it's best to thank the reviewer for taking the time to write out a review, and then never request a review from them again.

Ignoring the first post and acting ungrateful towards those who reviewed you are reportable offenses.

How WRFF Works

If you want to request reviews, post those requests in an open thread.

Be sure to read the first post: the first post contains information about what the thread owner will (and will not) review, as well as what the thread owner requests in return for reviewing.

Some threads, like the General Requests Repository and Review Trading Center, have special rules and requirements that are only laid out in the first post.

If you want to offer reviews, create a new thread.

For more details, check out the Thread Guidelines and the Request Guidelines.

Thread Guidelines

Before you create a thread to offer reviews, please check to see if you've created a thread in the past. Recycling your old WRFF thread is encouraged since it keeps the forum nice and tidy, and a Resources mod will merge your new and old threads together if they are within a page of each other.

To find your old threads, you can use the Advanced Search to "Search for author" (in this case, you). Using various Search Options will make finding your old thread even easier:

    - Search in forums: Clicking inside the box and typing "wi" will bring you directly to the WRFF selection. This way, only posts you've made in WRFF will show up in the results.
    - Search within: Choosing "First post of topics only" will search only the first post of each thread, so none of your request or reply posts in WRFF will show up in the results.
    - Display results as: The "Posts" option is selected by default and should take you directly to the post you need to edit.

The first post of your thread should cover:
    - what you will review
    - what you won't review
    - what you require in exchange for reviews ("nothing" counts as something!)
    - instructions on how to request a review from you

Some optional things to include are:
    - links to some of your reviews as samples
    - different types of reviews that can be requested (ex. detailed vs. overview, character-focused vs. plot-focused, etc.)
    - a basic time-frame for how long it takes you to complete a review
    - a fun theme for your thread
    - anything else you can think of that will make things fun for you and your requesters

Threads should also indicate whether or not they are [Accepting] or [Closed] to requests with a tag. Threads belonging to members who have been inactive for a month or more will be closed by a Resources mod to help keep active request threads easy to find.

To change the tag of a thread, simply edit the first post of your thread by clicking the pencil icon in the lower right corner of the first post:

Near the top is a drop-down menu with the list of available tags:

Select the applicable one, save your changes, and you're good to go.

Request Guidelines

Before you request a review from just anyone you see, it's a good idea to check out their reviews first. If there are no sample reviews in the first post, you can check this by going to their profile and clicking the Review tab, located beneath the latest status update.

All requests should:
- be polite
- include a link to the work

Remember that the people you are requesting reviews from are offering these reviews out of the kindness of their hearts. Always be sure to read and follow the instructions in the first post, and remember to thank your reviewer for taking the time to review your work -- even if you think their review was way off the mark.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if I post a thread to request reviews?

Threads like those are called general request threads, and they're not allowed in the WRFF forum since WRFF is a place where willing reviewers offer to review works. One of the Resources mods will contact you with an explanation of how WRFF works, after merging your request into the General Request Repository.

What happens if I request more than four reviews at a time?

This is considered spamming the WRFF forum, and so one of the Resources mods will delete your requests down to three and contact you about the rules.

Why down to three?

Generally, people who spam the WRFF forum with requests don't pay attention to who they are requesting from. By deleting down to three, one request is freed up so that you can request a review from someone you really want a review from.

Why is spamming the WRFF forum bad?

It ties up reviewers so that other members have to wait longer to get reviews. WRFF exists to ensure that everyone who wants quality reviews gets them in a timely fashion, so we Resources mods try to keep the forum running as quickly and smoothly as possible.

Can I request four reviews on the same work?

Aside from the limit of four open requests and any other requirements thread owners have in their first posts, there are no restrictions on what you can request reviews for. If you want to request four reviews on a single work, you can, just as you can also request reviews on four different works, or any combination in between.

I still have a question!

Feel free to ask it here in the Questions thread, or you can always PM one of the Resources Crew to ask.
