Big update!

Portfolios

As a number of people have already noticed, portfolios are back. To edit your portfolio, to the settings tab then profile then edit portfolio. It should hopefully be pretty easy to manage your portfolio.

However, they aren't done yet! A couple of items are in the pipeline that will make portfolios much better. One is the ability to upload cover art for literary works, which will be displayed inline with your portfolio items. The second are folder pages.

The second is the bigger update. Once it's done, each folder will have its own page that you can edit and link to. It'll make it a lot easier to share a novel, and there are some additional features I'm working on as well.

Gifts

For those who were here for YWS 4.0, it's completely the same. For new users, you can give gifts from the settings tab. You can additionally send any user a gift by visiting their profile and looking in the sidebar area.

Profiles

To see what you can do with profiles now, visit mine:
http://www.youngwriterssociety.com/profile/Nate

You can change the background, the title, and add a banner image to your profile. To change these settings, go to the settings tab then profile then to edit profile style.

You'll also notice that profile urls are much more user-friendly. For example, my portfolio is located at:
http://www.youngwriterssociety.com/profile/Nate/portfolio

This will make it easier to share, and it's a change that'll be coming to literary works soon as well.

Coming soon

The 'About' page will be added soon to profiles, as will an optional forum section where you can manage your own mini-forum. After this is completed, clubs will be added.

After clubs, the next item is to improve the literary area. That includes tweaking the submission process, tweaking urls, uploading cover art, and better moderation tools. All of this will be done before the Review Day on the 30th.

Merry Christmas!

You know, you'd think by now I know to check this forum first before I do anything else on YWS. But nooooo. I got and do other stuff, and then someone links to their profile and I flip before I check here. Good work, Nate! :P

Haha Bek. Sorry about that! This was kind of a spur of the moment type thing. That is, it's something I was planning to do, but not until January.

Glad everyone likes the changes. There are some errors here and there that you'll run into. If you happen to run into one, please let me know in the report a site bug thread.

And I finally get to have a pink profile.

Had to upload a custom image, though, because the pinks were too bright even for me. :P

Do I need to say more?

Although, the pink selection could've just been a ploy on Nate's part to make sure he'd not have to see a solid pink background on my profile.

It's pretty cool how people have been editing their profile. With the "About" page done, they're becoming like little websites, and there's going to be a couple more enhancements to help with that.

First, though, a question that I hope people will answer: Should portfolios be ordered differently? Right now, it's from oldest to newest. When you order them, the largest numbers go at the bottom.

I've gotten feedback on this, and I think I'm going to reverse that so that the default is from oldest to newest, with the largest numbers (when you order them) at the top.

Is that a good idea, or a bad idea?
