Information on User Ranks

In descending order of power, the five user ranks at YWS are:

- Administrator
- Moderator
- Mentor
- Instructor
- Greeter

Each of these user ranks are not earned but rather must be applied for. Once you are promoted to one of these ranks, you can be demoted at any time if you are not doing your job responsibilities. An explanation of each job's responsibilities follows:

- Administrator: You can not apply for these position. Administrators are responsible for the maintenance of the board, overseeing the moderators, and being omnescient.

- Moderator: New moderators are chosen by the current moderators, and thus you can not apply for this position either. Moderators are responsible for maintaining civil discussions, ensuring that vulgar language is appropiately used, warning members when they are out of line, and at all times acting as a representative of YWS.

- Mentor: To apply for mentor, see below. A mentor is very much like a moderator, except he or she cannot edit posts, move topics, warn members, or any of the other special mod powers. However, a mentor is responsible for ensuring all discussions remain civil, answering user questions, and being a representative of YWS. Mentors are also very active in the YWS community and are highly visible.

- Instructor: To apply, see below. An instructor routinely takes the time to critique submissions, publish writing tips, and may even offer an online class here at YWS. In short, instructors go above and beyond in helping others to improve their writing.

- Greeter: To apply, see below. A greeter is very active, especially in the Welcome forum. They should take the time to introduce themselves to new users, although certainly not every single new user! Greeters are the first members that a new member will meet, and are thus responsible for answering any initial questions.

Application Process

If you want to apply to be a Mentor, Instructor, or Greeter, simply PM either Firestarter or Nate and say which position you are applying for. There is no need to say why you would you like to be one or anything like that. Both Jack (Firestarter) and myself know most of YWS' members and can determine based on that whether you are right for the job.

However, if you are planning to offer an online class, you must PM either Firestarter or Nate with the name of the class, what that class will do, and how you will operate the class. If that is accepted, then you automatically become an Instructor.

You must believe in free will; there is no choice.
