Due to the new emoticons that Nate added to the site, we feel it is necessary to add some guidelines for when using them in your signature.

1. Use no more than three emoticons in your signature.
2. Don't be repetitive; why do you need more than one of the same emoticon?

Please keep these in mind when adding emoticons to your signature. Thank you!

Just out of curiosity, why no more than three?

*hugs my pirate*

Just him, I swear. :smt023

Everyone just needs to work the novelty out of their systems... I sense that once that happens the smiley-sig thing won't be a problem.

Just a guess.

I agree but going off what Shadow Twit said, why only three?

The purpose behind this guideline is similar to why we don't have images in signatures on this site: it can be annoying (though admittedly not always), and heavily detracts from the writing aspect.

With the smilies, the main concern is that it will be overdone, and if you have a question as to whether or not your signature is okay, just ask :P

Of course, this is not an enforceable rule, which is why we are calling it a guideline. Whether you abide by it or not is entirely up to you, but please keep the rest of us in mind when you decide to have ten smilies doing crazy things whenever you make a post or critique!

As for the rule of three... everything comes in threes! Had to draw the line somewhere, and three seemed like an appropriate number.
