Although overall site activity is quite healthy at the moment, YWS has been going through a spot of review difficulty as of late. So in order to ensure that each work submitted gets the attention it deserves, the cost to post a new work has been raised to 350. Consequently, new members will receive an automatic 350 points for joining (this has been applied retroactively as well).

Although earning 350 points may sound like a lot, it's still the equivalent of doing just two decent reviews of older works (older than 3 days) in the Green Room. And remember, if you're submitting a work, then the best way to receive a lot of comments and views is to review other recently posted works.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

@TimmyJake Close but not quite!

The cost to post works is usually 2 max points reviews, barring a few periods where the count goes higher/lower. This has been true for most of the time I've been on YWS. The thing is, the max number of points you could get for a review used to be 100, because we had no incentives for works with 0/1 reviews. So works used to cost 200 points to post.

Then we got one incentive, 150 max for 0/1 reviews, so the cost went to 250. Now, we've added yet another incentive which is works older than 3 days. We've added these incentives to make sure no work goes unreviewed, because it really sucks when you don't get any.

Now, the max number of points you can get is 175, which means two max points reviews is 350. So while it looks like inflation, it's really just encouraging people to earn the max number of points they can get and having them give back to the site (by doing at least 2 reviews for every 1 work they post).
