Contractions

A contraction refers to the condensing of words as they evolve through a language. They are often times easy to identify in literature and writing; however, there are some contractions most people have never heard of. As obscure as these contractions may be, they still exist and must be identified and kept in mind when composing a piece. Therefore, I will begin with the obvious and continue to some of these contractions you may not have heard of.

A short guide on contractions.

Don't = do not
Won't = will not
Can't = cannot
Shan't = shall not
Shouldn't = should not
Couldn't = could not
Should've = should have
Could've = could have
That'd = that would
It'd = it would
She'd = she would
He'd = he would
That'd've = that would have
She'd've = she would have
He'd've = he would have
That'd'n't've = that would not have
It't'n't've = it can't not have

This will guide you as you continue to contract

(PS: this is just for you, Nate. :wink: )

Meep- They are perfectly grammatically correct, but it gets just a bit confusing the longer you go. :P

It't'n't've = it can't not have

Is that supposed to be "can"?

But anyway, this is a good thread and I'm quite surprised too. ^^

I am sad that I'd've did not make an appearance in this.

I can only imagine writing these while taking notes quickly. xD If I had read these in a novel I would have probably stopped and stared for 5 minutes while trying to pronounce them.

In the winter months, snowstorms and rainfall in the Patagonian Ice Fields can drastically affect the landscape. Worsened by heavy winds, such storms can reduce visibility and lead to glacial calving, ice collapses, and avalanches. During these conditions, travel is not advised.
