Slightly updated! I added a section about whether to place the comma inside or outside the quotation marks.
"Your jokes are scarier than your earrings." -Twit

"14. Pretend like you would want him even if he wasn't a prince. (Yeah, right.)" -How to Make a Guy Like You - Disney Princess Style

Thanks for this, Demi! It's a great reference 8D
It's not about the weight of what's spoken.
It's about being heard.

"Thanks," he said. "Your post really helped me figure out how to punctuate correctly."

He checked himself before continuing. "I was a little unsure if what I was doing was the right thing, but it looked right and now I can continue confidently."

"I also have this link," he finished, "which is related to the material at hand and has often been helpful for me."

Great info. It's funny that you said example two regarding the comma placement was the British way of doing it, because I'm English yet I was always taught to put the comma within the speech marks, like in example one.

Nice that this resource exists. I found this webpage that explains further dialogue punctuation, including dialogue interrupted by action/thought, quoting within dialogue, dialogue abruptly cut off etc. I wasn't sure where to share the link but here seems to be a good place~
