Hey, I'm writing a science fiction story, and I have two questions:

1) Can you think of any cool sci-fi fan user names? So far I've only got LaserPhaser22 and 0solarflair0. Everything else sucks so I need something else XD

2) What occupations would a spaceship need? I've got team biologist, team scout, team medic, team pilot, and team phycist. But surely, when you're stranded on some uncharted planet, you need some more specialists?

Thanks so much!

I suck at number one, so...

2) Your ship won't need a biologist or physicist unless they're on a research mission, or have research as a secondary priority. Other than that...

-Captain and First Officer, obviously.
-A number of high-ranking secondary Officers, probably on the bridge or in command positions.

If you're talking about a fairly large ship, you'll need a mess officer and a number of support staff (depending on the ALLAKHAZAAM of your food technology). You will need a number of engineers who will, in all honesty, probably be able to rough out most of the physics you may be thinking of (as well as the pilot).

Again, this depends on your level of technology, but you may need grunts. In a military structure this will be the Privates, etc. If your story is "Oh, by the way, spaceship" then you can throw out basic support staff (think of 'em like space janitors).
Hey Daedalus, I'm Icarus. Do your thing, and for God's sake use something better than WAX this time.

1. lunar eclipse, galaxy?
2, for a limited staff you would probably have one person with the combined role as physicist, engineer, and mechanic. Your medic/ship's doctor would probably be well versed in various fields in biology.
*you don't seem to have a story, just the vague idea of what kind if story you want to write*

It's always good to include a psychologist. Be it human or machine, people in confined spaces with the same people for long periods of time tend to crack from time to time.
"Is", "is." "is" — the idiocy of the word haunts me. If it were abolished, human thought might begin to make sense. I don't know what anything "is"; I only know how it seems to me at this moment. -Robert Anton Wilson

Um, as a sci-fi fan, I'd definitely choose some kind of nerdy in-joke or character reference name. Particularly in reference to favourite works. Like, I dunno, Electricsheep or Case or Buzz Lightyear of Star Command. Or...something. Someone mentioned going on sci-fi forums and that's a good one — io9.com has some nice ones. The reference doesn't have to be overt, like Wish_i_was_abducted_by_aliens1919, and I kind of think that the more sci-fi-specific you get, the nicer the overall effect is.
"He yanked himself free and fled to the kitchen where something huddled against the flooded windowpanes. It sighed and wept and tapped continually, and suddenly he was outside, staring in, the rain beating, the wind chilling him, and all the candle darkness inside lost."

Don't really have any ideas for number one but as for number two find ideas from Star Trek or [i]Star Wars[/i. Both are science fiction outerspacey ideas with plenty of roles in a spaceship.
